Students will: Research the costs and benefits of NAFTA using resources on the Internet Understand controversy concerning NAFTA Use decision-making skills to arrive at a conclusion supported by research Synthesize their argument into a class presentation with other members of a group Extend their argument into a constructed response to answer the essential question 4.1.4 Compare the benefits and costs of policies that alter trade between nations, such as tariffs and quotas. 5. Technology research tools a. Students use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources. 1. Assign students to small groups of approximately 3 members 2. Explain the task to the students. Direct students to the online instructions where they will find rubrics and decision-making charts (http://www.bcpl.net/~sullivan/modules/nafta/index.h tml). 3. In computer lab, students research the pros and cons of NAFTA with group members, completing the decision-making chart as they conduct their research. 4. Students pool together research and decision-making charts to synthesize the information and reach a collaborative decision. 5. Students complete a visual for their presentation (may be PowerPoint, web poster, website, video, tri-fold poster, photo exhibit). 6. Students present decisions with visuals to the class. 7. Students complete and turn in extended constructed response individually.
