Binghamton High School – Pre-Engineering Academy Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems Mr. Gaska Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems (CIMS) is a course designed to introduce the world of CNC Machining and Robotic Technology. Students will use various machines including a CNC Milling Machine and Articulated Robot. They will also learn how to control a robot for material handling in a manufacturing environment. The class also develops skills in solid modeling, teamwork, presentation skills, organization and numerical code writing. College Credit This class is part of the Project Lead the Way five-course sequence. The college final exam is given by Rochester Institute of Technology and is administered at the BHS because it is a certified high school in this nationwide program. If a student scores 70% or better on this exam, and earns an 85% or better when the four marking periods are averaged together, then that student may opt to receive college credit from RIT. An application will be mailed home and a $200 tuition fee would be sent to RIT after the final grades have been received. (Optional) College credits can then be transferred to other schools and used toward college majors other than engineering. Mandatory Materials A 3-ring binder Pens and pencils Classroom calculators are available when needed Grades Completions of class projects, book work, drawings, presentations, quizzes and tests. Students are not required to have a computer or this software at home. Therefore, attendance is a necessity for academic achievement. (See Handbook for Attendance Policy) As a student enrolled in the Pre-Engineering Academy, I wish to successfully complete this course. I have carefully read and understand the expectations and responsibilities listed above. I understand that I need to meet all of these requirements in order to receive a passing grade and earn credit for this course. --------------------------------------------------------------------Signature of Student --------------------------Date --------------------------------------------------------------------Signature of Parent or Guardian --------------------------Date
