Type of Speech: Research-Based Persuasive Speech Supported By Audio-Visual Aide (PowerPoint) Topic: Sales Pitch/Ultimate Vacation Destination Length: 5 – 7 minutes What may I use to speak from: You will speak from bulleted phrases typed into the notes section of each PowerPoint slide; you will not use note cards! What do I have to make sure to include in order for the content to count as a grade? You MUST cite the source for every fact that you share that is not common knowledge, AS YOU SPEAK. You MUST include the source for every picture used in your presentation. You MUST have a properly formatted list of Works Cited at the end of your presentation. Every source that you cite during the speech must be in this list, and conversely, every source in this list must be cited at least one time during the speech. You have been selected by your boss at your travel agency to present to a presentation to the senior class as to the ultimate location for their upcoming spring break. You are among many speakers who will be presenting a variety of locations to them. Your goal is to sell them on your location. (Behavior at these locations will be guided by the rules as stated in the Student Handbook.) Things to include in this order: 1 Title slide: Name of location, appealing graphic, and your name 2 Map slides o Map 1 - General location in the world o Map 2 - Relationship of location to Minooka o In your speech, you will tell them: How will they get there? If flying, taking a train, or driving – how long? Cost of transportation there? 3 slides: Description of general features of location o Three things the area is known for (1/slide) o Why does this appeal to teens? o At least one major graphic per feature 1 slide: 30 second to 1-minute video clip to as an overview of the location (You must use the https: address from YouTube, or it won’t play. You will need to search for this video on YouTube by accessing it via https:) o Insert this video correctly using the “Insert” menu 3 slides: 3 Sightseeing Options (1/slide) o Name? What do you do there? o Why is it a good thing to do? o How will it appeal to teens? o What is the cost? o What are the hours? (if appropriate) o At least one major graphic per sightseeing option 3 slides - Food particular to area o What kind of food can I expect to eat when there? o Pick out at least 3 dishes/meals OR 3 restaurants Name and ingredients and cost OR Name of restaurant; location; type of food available; famous dishes; costs o At least one major graphic per featured food/restaurant 3 slides - Lodging ((MIN. of 3) o Budget hotel (name, location, amenities, cost/night) o Moderate hotel (name, location, amenities, cost/night) o Luxury hotel (name, location, amenities, cost/night) Works Cited Slide(s) o Pictures and videos must have the link under each graphic on the slide – 8 pt. bold o Each source that you used a fact from must be listed o Must be in proper format (http://www.easybib.com; Use “Website” option) o Must be in alphabetical format o Do NOT insert just a URL link!
