Driver Installation FOR USB1.1 & USB2.0 5.1 Windows® 98 Installation 5.1.1 Connect the USB port of USB2.0&1394 Hard Disk Enclosure to PC with USB cable. 5.1.2 The “Add New Hardware Wizard” dialog box will appears as below, click “Next” to continue. 5.1.3 Choose “Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended)” then click “Next”. 5.1.4 Select “Specify a location” and type D:\Y-255C\WINDOWS\USB (D: represents CD-ROM) in the dialog box, then click “Next” 5.1.5 Windows® will search the driver for this device. Make sure the driver that Windows® found is “D:\Y-255C\WINDOWS\USB\TPPINST.INF” then click “Next”. System will auto detect the device and load the driver then create a new device and name of “(E:)” at desktop as shown below. 5.2 Troubleshooting If the Hard Disk (brand new HD) didn't show in “My Computer” after the driver is being successfully installed, please go to “MS-DOS Prompt”, FDISK and FORMAT the new hard disk. (Please refer to MS-DOS instruction.) USB 2.0&1394 to IDE 2.5” hard disk Enclosure User’s Manual 3 5.3 Windows® ME installation It doesn’t need to install any extra driver at Windows® ME 5.3.1 Connect the USB port of USB2.0&1394 Hard Disk Enclosure to PC with USB cable. System will auto detect the device and load the driver then create a new device and name of “Local Disk (E:)” at desktop as shown below. 5.3.2 You should check “My Computer”-“Control Panel”-“System”-”Device Manager” to make sure the driver has already installed. Then, in the “Disk Drives” it will show a “FUJITSU MHM2050AT” (This model number will vary with different Hard Disk), in the “Hard disk controllers” it will show a “Storage Adapter Bridge Module”, and in the “Universal Serial Bus controller” it will show a new item of “USB Mass Storage Device”. If it is a brand new hard disk, please go to “MS-DOS Prompt” and FDISK, FORMAT new hard disk. (Please refer to MS-DOS instruction) 5.5 Windows® 2000 installation It doesn’t need to install any extra driver at Windows® 2000 5.5.1 Connect the USB port of USB2.0&1394 Hard Disk Enclosure to PC with USB cable. System will auto detect the device and load the driver then create a new device of “Local Disk (E:)” at desktop as shown below. USB 2.0&1394 to IDE 2.5” hard disk Enclosure User’s Manual 5 5.5.2 You could check “My Computer”-“Control Panel”-“System”-”Device Manager” to make sure the driver has already installed. Then, in the “Disk Drives” it will show a “FUJITSU MHM2050AT USB Device” (This model number will vary with different Hard Disk), and in the “Universal Serial Bus controller” it will show a new item of “USB Mass Storage Device”. 5.6 Troubleshooting 5.6.1 After you have successfully installed the driver, but there is no new hard disk shown at “My Computer”. 5.6.2 If it is a brand new hard disk, please go to “Control Panel”-“Administrative Tools”-“Computer Management”-“Disk Management” and then choose the new HD. Then follow the step to FDISK and FORMAT this new hard disk. USB 2.0&1394 to IDE 2.5” hard disk Enclosure User’s Manual 6 5.7 Windows® XP installation It doesn’t need to install any extra driver at Windows® XP 5.7.1 Connect the USB port of USB2.0&1394 Hard Disk Enclosure to PC with USB cable. System will auto detect the device and load driver then create a new device of “Local Disk (E:)” at “My Computer” as shown below. USB 2.0&1394 to IDE 2.5” hard disk Enclosure User’s Manual 7 5.7.2 You could check “My Computer”-“Control Panel”-“System”-”Device Manager” to make sure the driver has already installed. Then, in the “Disk Drives” it will show a “FUJITSU MHM2050AT USB Device” (This model number will vary with different Hard Disk), and in the “Universal Serial Bus controller” it will show a new item of “USB Mass Storage Device”. 5.8 Troubleshooting If you have successfully installed the driver, but can’t see the new hard disk on “My Computer “, please check the following points. 5.8.1 Go to the “Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer” “Management-Disk Management”, and then choose the new HD. Then following the steps to FDISK and FORMAT the hard disk. USB 2.0&1394 to IDE 2.5” hard disk Enclosure User’s Manual 8 5.9 MAC installation 5.9.1 Turn on your Apple computer and make sure that the USB port is enabled and work properly. 5.9.2 Plug the USB2.0&1394 Hard Disk Enclosure to your MAC, the system will auto convert the HDD to the Macintosh PC Exchange format. 5.9.3 After the step, you can see the “NEW VOLUME” icon appear on the desktop 5.9.4 To make sure the USB2.0&1394 Hard Disk Enclosure can works properly, you have to check the “Apple System Profiler”-“Devices and volumes”, you can see two items under the USB item USB 2.0&1394 to IDE 2.5” hard disk Enclosure User’s Manual 9 5.10 MAC Un-installation 5.10.1 Throw the “NEW VOLUME” icon to the Trash, and restart your computer again. 6. Driver Installation FOR IEEE 1394 6.1 Windows® 98 Installation 6.1.1. Booting the “ windows 98 SE “ 6.1.2. Connect the IEEE1394 cable to USB2.0&1394 Hard Disk Enclosure. 6.1.3. Then connect to IEEE 1394 port in computer. 6.1.4. Finding out “ Insert the Disk “, insert the “ Window 98 SE “ to the CD-ROM Drive, Then click the “ confirmation “ the drive will be created automatically. 6.1.5. Make sure if the “ Hard disk icon “ is created in “ My computer “. 6.2 Windows® ME/2000/XP Installation 6.2.1. Booting the Windows 6.2.2. Connect the IEEE 1394 cable to USB2.0&1394 Hard Disk Enclosure 6.2.3. Then connect to IEEE 1394 port in computer. 6.2.4. Make sure if the “ Hard disk Icon “is created in “ My computer “. Install the driver under position in offered drive CD Re-Booting the computer and then connect the Y-255C 6.4 MAC installation for MAC OS X.1 version 6.4.1. It will be recognized automatically without any additional drive. 7. FAQ Q : After driver installed, there is no new hard disk model name show at “Disk Drivers” of “Device Manager” or “Universal Serial Bus controllers” does not have “USB Mass Storage Device” appear. A: Adjust jumper of hard disk to “Cable Select” or other setting and try again. Q: If a brand new hard disk has been installed at enclosure. It shows “USB Mass Storage Device” in “Universal Serial Bus controllers”, but there is not any new hard disk at “Disk drivers”. A: Please FDISK and FORMAT hard disk. Q: When transferring file and system hang-up. A: Set “Never” at “Turn Off hard disk” of “Power Management” of “Device Manager” 8.
