Aleris (Formerly Commonwealth Aluminum) - Lewisport, KY Operations
This is a full-time, exempt role that reports directly to the General Manager, Kentucky Operations.
Purpose of the role
To lead, coordinate, administer, evaluate, provide daily support and manage all human resources
functions, policies, programs and practices within the Lewisport facility while adhering to all policies
and guidelines of Aleris International, pertinent government regulations and the current Labor
Agreement.
Accountabilities
Develop and nurture constructive working relations with the United Steelworkers of America.
Supervise, develop and lead a skilled Human Resources team with providing overall HR leadership and
guidance for approximately 900 employees in the areas of recruitment, retention, benefits, pay, safety,
security, training, EEOC, worker’s compensation, unemployment, relocation and medical programs.
Collaborate, consult and support internal and external legal counsel in matters of company litigation,
arbitration, negotiation, and compliance specific to Lewisport.
Collaborate with Corporate Human Resources Team on issues related to HRIS, recruitment,
employment, payroll, records, administration, performance management, etc. Collaborate and consult
with other site HR Managers on issues of common interest and concern.
Identify, evaluate and resolve human relation and work performance problems, providing functional
guidance, counseling and coaching to all Lewisport management.
Evaluate human relations climate and meet with General Manager, Kentucky Operations and other
management employees to determine effective remediation techniques or discipline required to resolve
issues adversely affecting morale and/or productivity.
Review, design, interpret, administer and make recommendations to General Manager, Kentucky
Operations for any improvements to HR policies, procedures and practices; effectively communicate
appropriate changes to all employees and ensure compliance.
Recommend, evaluate and manage staff development programs, including the Aleris Impact
Management (AIM) performance appraisal system.
Serve as consultant to General Manger, Kentucky Operations on matters of security, training and
development, labor climate, existing systems, the Labor Agreement and employment, safety and security
regulations.
Maintain knowledge of HRIS systems and provide necessary monthly reports.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in any discipline, preferably in Business or HR Management,
OR 7-10 years of experiences as a supervisor or manager in public or private

human resources experience required; PHR/ SPHR certification desirable.
