We are operating in Germany three highly-specialised extruding plants in Bitterfeld, Bonn and Vogt. On this basis, a modern plant for the production of small and medium sized profiles as well as selected bars evolved near Leipzig in the 1990s. This was swiftly followed by the installation of two presses which were in turn supplemented at the end of the 20th century by new, modern equipment ensuring on-going improvements in quality for our customers. In close co-operation with its customers, Aleris Bitterfeld manufactures high quality profiles and bars from aluminum billets for a wide range of applications. Over the last decades customers in Central Europe can rely on consistent quality from Bitterfeld. Aleris Bitterfeld has been producing primary material for the forge market for more than ten years. Using 6xxx alloys specially developed for this industry, tensile strength of more than 450 MPa (Rm) are achieved thus offering the possibility of an extensive range of applications. Special forge alloys for maximum customer demands (AlForge+ EN-AW6110A ) complete this range. The following applies for all areas: high performance, flexibility and absolute customer proximity guarantee products which satisfy customer requirements in an optimal way. Established in the 1920s, the plant has consistently and successfully developed to become a technology partner for its customers. The company‘s trademark today is intelligent product solutions and component manufacturing. The range of products includes aluminum profiles for engineering, automotive, building & construction and electrical technology as well as comprehensive solutions for the railway, defence, shipbuilding and offshore industry segments. Billets from the in-house castshop can be offered in more than 150 different alloys for a wide variety of applications. Our own plants and our European customers benefit from many years of experience in the manufacturing and machining of billets with diameters up to 680 mm. Special patented alloys for “crash applications” have been developed for the automotive 6 www.aleris.com sector. Yield strengths of Rp0.2 > 280 MPa are achieved accompanied by crash suitability while pressing seamless tubes across a mandrel. With its extensive portfolio, Aleris Bonn can easily align itself towards changing conditions on international markets. Instead of individual parts, the plant offers an entire service package from engineering during the development phase through to the finished product with the result that a single supplier can provide customers with large profiles including comprehensive “near-end-shape” finishing services achieving faster time-to-market targets. The aluminum profiles are extruded on three extrusion presses with press capacity of 22 MN, 43 MN and 90 MN, welded by highly-qualified experts inhouse and processed ready for installation on state-of-the-art CNC machining centre. Our production is focused on the area of rolling stock construction. Using the experience in profile components fabrication and the technical possibilities offered in Bonn, outsized assemblies e.g. side panels, floors and roofs for rolling stock can be manufactured at high quality. Up to 4 metres in width, side panels ready for installation are manufactured from extruded aluminum profiles of up to 28 meter in length which can be cut to size, welded, milled, drilled, fully assembled and finally delivered just-in-time all over Europe. The technology required for such complex projects has been established over decades and optimised in close co-operation with international customers. HISTORY Aleris Bonn is in a position to manufacture heavy extrusions with complex shapes and geometries on a high quality standard on their unique 90 MN press, automatic MIG welding equipment or long-bed CNC machining centre. Short lengths with and without bevels – manufactured on a modern machining centre – can also be offered for the automotive market. The entire infrastructure is designed for handling of complete assemblies and sub-assemblies including relevant cranes and special lifting devices. A great advantage is to have an own team for design, construction and production of jigs and fixtures. The requested specifications can be achieved by thermal treatment, cold or warm process, followed by further processing and finishing steps in the modern infrastructure in the plant especially designed for aluminum or by outsourcing to well qualified subcontractors. Profile lengths of up to 6,300 mm can be machined in one fixation up to 2,500 mm particularly efficiently in dual zone alternating machining operation. Machining profile ends using angle heads and machining on multiple sides is also possible at the same fixation. With more than 50 years of expertise concerning aluminum as a material, the facility has become one of the leading development partners of the aerospace industry, the defence sector and the automotive industry. Hard aluminum alloys play a major role in complex applications in aeroplanes and automobiles. Particular emphasis should be given to the AlEco62Sn alloy, a 100% lead-free alloy for machining applications. Using its indirect 50 MN press, the Ebner horizontal solution annealing furnace and the 800-t stretcher, Aleris Duffel offers optimum production conditions for these tasks. Modern ageing furnaces allow the closest tolerances thereby guaranteeing high-end products.
