HIGH QUALITY FOR OUR CUSTOMERS
The Aleris extrusion operations are located in
Europe and China. We are operating in
Germany three highly-specialised extruding
plants in Bitterfeld, Bonn and Vogt. The
automotive industry and its direct suppliers,
the transportation and defence sectors,
engineering and electrical technology as well
as the construction and solar sectors benefit
from our extensive range of extrusion
profiles. Our portfolio also offers the
possibility of further processing through to
semi finished and finished component
manufacturing.
Our plant in Duffel (Belgium) concentrates on
processing high-strength aluminum materials
– particularly for the aerospace as well as
automatic rapid-machinable alloys for
automotive industry, which are delivered to
customers world-wide.
The Chinese plant in Tianjin enables us to
serve customers with local production on
European standards. The rolling stock vehicle
and automobile sectors are supplied with
processed extrusions in the Asian region.
Our own foundries in Europe – also
offering an extensive range of special alloys
– offer our customers reliable technology
and materials from a single source.
As the main supplier in numerous industry
sectors and due to investments in modern
production facilities, research and development, quality assurance and on-going
further training as well as excellent

operations have been able to acquire

Aleris Recycling plants in Europe manufacture high-quality die-casting and wrought

In the heart of Germany and close to the
requirements of Central and Eastern
European markets: as one of the most
traditional German extrusion sites, Aleris
Bitterfeld unites extensive experience,
in-depth expertise and state-of-the-art
technologies when it comes to aluminum.
On this basis, a modern plant for the
production of small and medium sized
profiles as well as selected bars evolved
near Leipzig in the 1990s. This was swiftly
followed by the installation of two presses
which were in turn supplemented at the
end of the 20th century by new, modern
equipment ensuring on-going improvements in quality for our customers.
In close co-operation with its customers,
Aleris Bitterfeld manufactures high quality
profiles and bars from aluminum billets for a
wide range of applications. The comprehensive portfolio comprises all standard alloys
representing the 6xxx and Cu-free 7xxx range
as well as special customised products.

The primary focus is on serving the automotive industry while tailored solutions are
offered to the engineering sector, the solar
and the transportation industries. Over the
last decades customers in Central Europe can
rely on consistent quality from Bitterfeld.
Aleris Bitterfeld has been producing primary
material for the forge market for more than
ten years. Using 6xxx alloys specially
developed for this industry, tensile strength
of more than 450 MPa (Rm) are achieved
thus offering the possibility of an extensive
range of applications. Special forge alloys
for maximum customer demands (AlForge+
EN-AW6110A ) complete this range.
The following applies for all areas: high
performance, flexibility and absolute
customer proximity guarantee products
which satisfy customer requirements in an
optimal way.
Other services such as sawing, drilling,
material testing and alloy analyses as well
as the manufacturing of complex surface
qualities are also offered.
Consistent customer orientation is not only
offered by the plant in the area of manufacturing: Aleris Bitterfeld is also highly
attuned to its customers’ specifications in
the areas of logistics and delivery readiness.

Aleris Bonn is one of the best known and
most experienced producers of complex
large-profile technology in Europe.
Established in the 1920s, the plant has
consistently and successfully developed to
become a technology partner for its
customers. The company‘s trademark
today is intelligent product solutions and
component manufacturing.
The range of products includes aluminum
profiles for engineering, automotive,
building & construction and electrical
technology as well as comprehensive
solutions for the railway, defence, shipbuilding and offshore industry segments.
Billets from the in-house castshop can be
offered in more than 150 different alloys
for a wide variety of applications. Our own
plants and our European customers benefit
from many years of experience in the
manufacturing and machining of billets
with diameters up to 680 mm. Special
patented alloys for “crash applications”
have been developed for the automotive

sector. Yield strengths of Rp0.2 > 280 MPa
are achieved accompanied by crash
suitability while pressing seamless tubes
across a mandrel.
With its extensive portfolio, Aleris Bonn can
easily align itself towards changing
conditions on international markets.
Instead of individual parts, the plant offers
an entire service package from engineering
during the development phase through to
the finished product with the result that a
single supplier can provide customers with
large profiles including comprehensive
“near-end-shape” finishing services
achieving faster time-to-market targets.
The aluminum profiles are extruded
on three extrusion presses with press
capacity of 22 MN, 43 MN and 90 MN,
welded by highly-qualified experts inhouse
and processed ready for installation on
state-of-the-art CNC machining centre.
Our production is focused on the area of
rolling stock construction. Using the
experience in profile components fabrication and the technical possibilities offered
in Bonn, outsized assemblies e.g. side
panels, floors and roofs for rolling stock
can be manufactured at high quality. Up to
4 metres in width, side panels ready for
installation are manufactured from
extruded aluminum profiles of up to 28
meter in length which can be cut to size,
welded, milled, drilled, fully assembled and
finally delivered just-in-time all over Europe.
The technology required for such complex
projects has been established over decades
and optimised in close co-operation with
international customers.
HISTORY
Aleris Bonn is in a position to manufacture
heavy extrusions with complex shapes and
geometries on a high quality standard on
their unique 90 MN press, automatic MIG
welding equipment or long-bed CNC
machining centre. Short lengths with and
without bevels – manufactured on a
modern machining centre – can also be
offered for the automotive market. The
entire infrastructure is designed for handling
of complete assemblies and sub-assemblies
including relevant cranes and special lifting
devices. A great advantage is to have an
own team for design, construction and
production of jigs and fixtures.

Since 1952, Aleris Vogt has consistently
evolved to become a technological
competence centre for profiles and

and most important automotive subsuppliers. Due to its Kanban processed production Aleris Vogt is capable to deliver

With the extensive expertise and state-ofthe-art technology, Aleris Vogt is capable to
supply finished products of high quality.
Profiles can be cut to size to standard or
customized dimensions. The requested
specifications can be achieved by thermal
treatment, cold or warm process, followed
by further processing and finishing steps in
the modern infrastructure in the plant
especially designed for aluminum or by
outsourcing to well qualified
subcontractors.
Profile lengths of up to 6,300 mm can be
machined in one fixation up to 2,500 mm
particularly efficiently in dual zone alternating
machining operation. Machining profile ends
using angle heads and machining on multiple
sides is also possible at the same fixation.

Located in the south of the Belgian port of
Antwerp, Aleris Duffel is one of the most
advanced producers of profiles and round
bars made of medium- and high-strength
aluminum alloys. With more than 50 years
of expertise concerning aluminum as a
material, the facility has become one of the
leading development partners of the
aerospace industry, the defence sector and
the automotive industry.
Hard aluminum alloys play a major role in
complex applications in aeroplanes and
automobiles. Particular emphasis should be
given to the AlEco62Sn alloy, a 100%
lead-free alloy for machining applications.
Using its indirect 50 MN press, the Ebner
horizontal solution annealing furnace and
the 800-t stretcher, Aleris Duffel offers
optimum production conditions for these
tasks. Modern ageing furnaces allow the
closest tolerances thereby guaranteeing
high-end products.
With its extraordinary drawing force, the
800-t stretcher helps to minimize residual
stresses for all hard alloys in order to

achieve close dimensional tolerances
after machining.
These facilities enable international
customers to procure aluminum profiles
and bars with outstanding technological
properties.
The company’s own cast house comprises
ultra-modern smelting and casting
machines. For example, exclusively
channel induction furnaces are used for
the smelting process which in turn
ensures optimal homogeneity of the
metal. This allows Aleris to guarantee the
customers reliable technology from a

available from our own cast house sets

applications South-east of Beijing, Tianjin is
a key trade, industrial and transport hub in
northern China. The city’s river port is
regarded as one of the largest foreign
trade ports the People’s Republic of China
has to offer.
Customer and geographical proximity to
production facilities play a decisive role in
the Aleris philosophy. Consequently, the
new extrusion plant for supplying the Asian
market was built in Tianjin in 2000.

The factory specializes in producing
medium and large profiles for rolling stock
– more precisely for the aluminum wagon
structures – and works with a powerful 55
MN press supplied in 1996 by Danieli from
Italy and a 28 MN press installed in 2012.
This is supplemented by parts for shipbuilding, offshore products, automotive safety
component, valve bodies, pump and motor
housings, electrical coolers, lamp sockets
and other specialties.
The capacity of the presses adds up to
10,000 tonnes p.a.

Asia. In the automobile sector, the plant

production of parts for safety and crash
components. In the manufacturing of large
aluminum profiles for railway and metro
cars, Aleris Tianjin became the market
leader in China.
From its plant in Tianjin, Aleris supplies the
Asian market with a wide range of
extrusions in 6000 and 7000 series alloys at
lengths of up to 28 metres and 530 mm in
width. Customers not only benefit from
