TYPES OF BALLOTS IN MONROE COUNTY
Monroe County Municipalities utilize three different types of ballots. Please note
that the Optical Scan ballots are only used in the Towns of LaGrange, Sparta,
Little Falls and the Cities of Sparta and Tomah.

3 - Touch Screen
To cast a Paper Ballot:
The elector shall make a cross (X) in the square next to the name of the candidate
for whom he or she intends to vote. To vote for a person whose name does not
appear on the ballot, the elector shall write in the name of the person of his or her
choice in the space provided for a write-in vote. On referendum questions, the
elector shall make a cross (X) in the square next to "yes" if in favor of the question,
or the elector shall make a cross (X) in the square next to "no" if opposed to the
question.
To cast an Optical Scan Ballot:
The elector shall fill in the oval or connect the arrow next to the name of the
candidate of his or her choice for each office for whom he or she intends to vote.
To vote for a person whose name does not appear on the ballot, the elector shall
write in the name of the person of his or her choice in the space provided and fill in
the oval or connect the arrow on the write-in line. On referendum questions, the
elector shall fill in the oval or connect the arrow next to "yes" if in favor of the
question, or the elector shall fill in the oval or connect the arrow next to "no" if
opposed to the question.
To cast a ballot on the Touch Screen:
The elector shall depress the button next to the name of the candidate for whom he
or she intends to vote. To vote for a person whose name does not appear on the
ballot, the elector shall type in the name of the person of his or her choice in the
space provided for a write-in vote. On referendum questions, the elector shall
depress the button next to "yes" if in favor of the question, or the elector shall
depress the button next to "no" if opposed to the question.
