Welcome to Regents Global History and Geography 10. This is the second course in the required twocourse sequence in global history and geography. When you have completed this course, you will take the

Global History and Geography New York State Regents Examination. Remember, the exam contains material from both 9 th

and 10 th

grade Global History. YOU MUST PASS THIS TEST in order to graduate from high school. To prepare you for this important test you will be required to write a great deal in this course, as the exam contains a substantial amount of essay writing.

If you have any questions about assignments or anything discussed in class feel free to contact me via email at bhall@oswego.org

or stop by and speak to me personally in room 141 or the Social Studies Department

Office in Room 130.

Rules

 Respect your classmates, teacher, school & self. Courteous behavior is expected at all times

Raise your hand to get permission to speak – listen while others are speaking

Late to class, skipping, rude/disruptive behavior or other violations of school rules will result in disciplinary action.

It is your responsibility to get missed assignments or turn in work if you miss class

Work that was due the day you were absent is due the day you return to class

Grading:

I will be using the online gradebook Snapgrades. It will be your responsibility to check the site to monitor your grades and progress. Some papers, tests, etc. will not be handed back in class.

To find out your grade you will have to check the website.

Tests 40% (announced in advance)

Tests will almost always be made up entirely of past Regents Exam questions for the unit

Essays/Quizzes 25%

Thematic essays and DBQs will be assigned

Both announced and unannounced quizzes will be given as needed

Classwork/Homework 25%

We will be working out of a packet for each unit. Most of the assignments, notes, and readings for that unit will be in the packet. It is essential that you bring the packet to class each day.

Homework and classwork will be given frequently.

Homework/classwork will be graded on the following scale: o √ +

= 150 (only given for exceptional effort) o √ = 100 (work is complete and on time) o √-

= 50 (work is either late or incomplete)

If you are unprepared for class (no homework, etc.) you will get a zero for that assignment.

Participation 10%

You start off with these points the first day and they can only be lost. Behavior problems, being late or skipping class, and being unprepared will impact your average.

If you have any problems/concerns or trouble with the course please do not hesitate to ask me for extra help. I am almost always available before and after school in room 141 or in the Social Studies Office (room 130). You can also usually find me there during my lunch and planning periods (3 rd , 6 th & 9 th ).
