BP GENERAL INFORMATION BP is the largest producer of oil and gas in the US, and one of the largest in the world. We employ over 80,000 people and operate in over 80 countries worldwide. We own multiple refineries around the globe, a fleet of more than 80 ships and 25,000 miles of pipeline. We explore and produce in Arctic conditions, and operate onshore and in deepwaters. And, we do it all with one thing in mind: to provide heat, light and mobility to people without compromising the planet. We are also among the world’s most progressive large enterprises. In 1997, we were the first major energy company to acknowledge the need for precautionary action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Today BP continues to lead the effort to meet the world’s growing demand for sustainable energy. Here at BP, we’re proud of what we do, who we are and what we stand for. We invite you to consider us and Look beyond the limits. BP ALTERNATIVE ENERGY GENERAL INFORMATION BP is focused on building businesses for biofuels as well as wind and solar power, because we see these key lowcarbon areas as being both strongly aligned with our core capabilities as a group and having real potential to fulfill substantial portions for the world’s energy needs in the future. Since launching our alternative energy business in 2005, we have invested more than $5 billion. We have grown our US wind business from zero to over 1300 megawatts gross capacity; shipped our 10 millionth solar module and acquired the lignocellulosic assets from Verenium Corporation Inc. for $98 million. With time and with the support of stable and appropriate government policies, we believe our alternative energy businesses have the potential to become profitable business ventures. We chose them as our alternative energy focus areas because they build on BP’s natural strengths as well as the skills and expertise of our partners. SEGMENT INFORMATION BIOFUELS Biofuels are fuels derived from biomass such as cereals, oilseeds, sugarcane and specially grown energy grasses. They can have an environmental impact that is significantly lower than other fuels. Producing biofuels can also reduce dependence on imported oil and provide jobs and markets for rural communities. BP is working to produce biofuels – today and in the future – that are low cost, low carbon, sustainable and able to fulfill the world’s transportation fuel needs on a large scale. In addition, an integrated 1.4 million gallon per year demonstration unit has been constructed and commissioned in Jennings, Louisiana and a commercial project is currently underway in Highlands County, Florida. We are looking for highly motivated, creative individuals to join our team. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to use his or her technical expertise in new and innovative ways to advance BP Biofuels’ business interests. Opportunities exist in all major areas of BP to explore your career aspirations and develop the technical and professional skills you will need for a successful career, while earning a competitive salary and learning about the world of business. Summer internships last 12 weeks, usually taking place in the summer before your final academic year. At the beginning of your internship, we discuss with you the skills we hope you will develop and encourage you to keep a record of your progress. All interns are supported by a line manager who sets your objectives with you and ensures you have the training and equipment to succeed. A detailed and focused appraisal process is essential to ensure that you get the most from your experience. Your line manager will monitor your progress and discuss it with you throughout the internship, and specifically during a mid-internship appraisal. This helps you to see where you are succeeding and what else is needed before the end of the internship. Additionally, you will also be assigned a mentor/buddy who helps network you across BP, discusses your progress and can address any questions you have. Depending on your performance, you could be offered a full-time job following the end of your internship.
