MEMBERS IN NEED OF OUR PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, when you walked upon this earth, You healed the sick,
gave sight to the blind, caused the lame to walk, and raised the dead.
Now we come to You in behalf of those who are in need today and pray
that You would send them your healing power. Hear our prayer for Your
name’s sake. Amen.

The Stewardship Committee will be sponsoring a
Lutheran World Hunger food drive this fall called “Get
Your Goat” campaign. The campaign will involve making
donations to purchase animals through ELCA’s Good Gifts
for the many of our sisters and brothers who still go
hungry in this world. Animals include goats, chickens,
cows, sheep, pigs and alpacas. Animals can be
purchased on an individual basis (prices from $10 and
up) or a full family farm can be purchased for $715. We
will keep a barnyard tally of St. John’s purchases in the
vestibule for all members to see!
The fall campaign will launch with an end of summer
“Chicken for Chickens” BBQ on August 29th at the church
(from 11:00 am – Sold Out). Tickets will be available for
purchase beginning Sunday, July 26th through Sunday,
August 23rd. Tickets may also be purchased at the
church on Wednesdays from 11am to 7pm, as well as on
Saturday August 1st and Saturday, August 22nd from 9am
to 12 pm. You may also contact members of LYFE
Committee or Pastor to purchase tickets or to get tickets
to sell. All monies raised will be used to purchase
chickens from ELCA’s Good Gifts Catalog.
The campaign will run through October 16, 2015 which is
World Food Day. Watch your bulletin and posters placed
around the church for more information on this
campaign.
SEWING WORK DAY/LUNCH. On Tuesday, August 11, 2015, the
sewing ladies will meet for sewing at 9:00 and leave the church at 11:15
for lunch at 11:30 at Momma Spriggs Restaurant on York Road. All
women of the church are welcome to attend. Anyone wishing to carpool
should meet at the church parking lot. Please call Linda Brocious at
243-9742 or email her at linda@brocious.net to make a reservation.
MONTHLY FOOD DRIVE. Service & Fellowship Committee are the
monitors for the food drive for August. Service & Fellowship requests
donations of spaghetti sauce and pasta for August, or any non-perishable
food. Project Share will thankfully receive our August donations.
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING, AUGUST 16
On August 16th, following the 9:30 AM Worship Service, a special
meeting of the congregation is scheduled. The purpose is to inform
everyone about the Pastor Call process. We will also be making
decisions regarding possible repairs to the heating system. Please plan
to attend.
SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS ARE NEEDED FOR THE FALL:
Contact anyone on the Learning Committee—Kris Zwemer, Sharon
Koehler, Sandy Lewis, Jennifer Varner, Jane Gillwood, Todd Lewis,
Justin Lewis.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 6. On
Sunday, September 6, 2015, at 10:00 AM, our worship service/picnic
will be held at South Middleton Park. Those attending are asked to
bring their own place settings and a covered dish to share. The Worship
Committee will provide drinks. In the event of inclement weather, it
will be relocated to St. John Fellowship Hall.
WORLD MALARIA CAMPAIGN: The goal of the campaign is to
raise $15 million and Council voted to support the campaign and set a
goal of $1500 for St. John! We will collect now through the end of
August. Anyone interested in donating can add the money to their
regular offering and mark the amount for Malaria Campaign. This is a
disease that kills a child every 60 seconds in Africa. Please help support
this important mission of the ELCA in putting an end to the devastating
effects of this disease.
