This is a general guide to help you prepare for the test. If you know the material on the
study guide, you will have the tools to be successful on the test. You should make flash
cards with one fact per card. Next, quiz yourself using your newly made study tools.
Be prepared to write developed essays with clear topic sentences. In addition, there may
be true and false questions, multiple choice, fill in the blank, and matching questions.
Hinduism (Chapter 15)
1) What are two theories of how Hinduism originated in India?
2) How did the caste system work?
3) How are the Hindu beliefs of karma and dharma related to the caste system?
4) Know the three main gods in Hinduism and what their roles are.
5) What is samsara, and how does it end?
Flood Stories
1) Be able to write about the similarities and differences between the Babylonian,
Judaism, and Hindu flood stories.
2) Know the reasons for these similarities and differences.
(review the flood chart and reread the flood stories given in class)
Buddhism (Chapters 16 and 17)
1) Be able to answer general questions about Prince Siddhartha's birth and life.
(review your picture timeline!)
2) Be familiar with the terms nirvana, ascetic, edict, eightfold path and
enlightenment.
3) Know the meaning of Buddha.
4) Be able to list the four noble truths of Buddhism.
5) Know the ruler who first united India.
6) Know when King Ashoka ruled.
7) Be able to list and explain King Ashoka's four main goals promoted within his
empire.
Judaism (Chapters 11 and 12, PowerPoint handout)
1) Be familiar with the terms Yahweh, covenant, exodus, prophet, plagues, and
the Ark of the Covenant.
2) Be able to identify the main contributions of Judaism made by Moses,
Abraham, David, and Solomon. (reference workbook pages 78-80)
3) Know why Canaan is important within the Judaism tradition.
4) Know the definition of monotheism.
5) Be able to answer general questions about the Diaspora (date, reason, ect).
6) Be able to list the three sections of the Tanak.
7) Know King Herod and what he did in Israel. (reference page 348 in text)
