“You have not lived until you have done something for someone who can never
repay you”. Ascend Hospice is offering volunteer opportunities for
compassionate, empathetic individuals who want to enhance their lives by
giving their time to others in their community. Volunteers can make friendly visits
to a patient, make crafts for patients and families, and assist our staff. Ascend
Hospice also utilizes the gifts and talents of alternative practitioners, such as
massage therapists, reiki therapists, pet therapists and music therapists.
Volunteers receive hospice training and commitment ranges from one to two
hours per week.

The CILSJ is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to
assisting disabled people live independently. The Center
provides freedom of choice to work, own a home, and raise a family for people
with disabilities. CILSJ also promotes general participation to the fullest extent
possible in day-to-day activities. Volunteers are needed to assist the disabled in
daily activities such as, cooking, reading the mail, and light labor. Most
importantly, volunteers are needed as positive role models.

Compassionate Care is a community based program that provides end of life
care to Patients and their Families in the Gloucester County area. Our
volunteers play a very important role in that end of life care. They spend time
with the patients…talking, watching movies, playing games and more. They
may run errands for family members…and help with respite for the caregivers.

Literacy New Jersey, Gloucester County Programs is a community-based
nonprofit organization dedicated to those individuals in need of literacy and
English as a Second Language education. Volunteer tutors are needed to work
one-on-one with adults (ages 18+) in a public facility for a minimum of two hours
per week. Volunteers also needed to run 8-week class in basic math skills, digital
literacy, ready, and beginning English. Tutor trainings are offered in the fall and

unites college students with local grade school children through a weekly
mentoring program. Volunteer mentors, “Bigs” spend one hour once a week
with an elementary school-aged child, “Little” during an after-school program in
Glassboro, conveniently located within walking distance to the Rowan University
campus. “Bigs” spend quality time with their “Little” by playing board games,
engaging in sports, or helping out with school work. Applicants must be able to
commit to at least one year and must be consistent in their meetings with their
“Little”. Program staff will interview and provide training to all volunteers. Case
Manager will monitor progress and provide continuous support throughout the
entire length of the match. Applications are available at the Volunteerism,
Community Engagement and Commuter Services Office at Rowan University.

Gateway Community Action Partnership is a social service organization that

The Juvenile Intensive Supervision Program provides community based
supervision for juveniles adjudicated delinquent by the Family Court. JISP serves
as a dispositional option allowing selected juveniles to remain in the community
while under intensive team supervision. Volunteers are needed to mentor
juvenile offenders located in the South Jersey area and serve as community
core team members who meet once a month to review individual cases.

The NJ GEAR UP Mentoring Program is a component of the statewide project NJ
GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate
Programs). Students participating in NJ GEAR UP receive educational support
and assistance to complete high school and enroll in a college or university.
Guidance counselors, students, and parents in schools targeted by NJ GEAR UP
receive information about college financial aid opportunities in workshops
provided by the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority. The
main purpose of the mentoring component is to provide support to NJ GEAR UP
students in their journey towards higher education. Volunteers are needed as
mentors, who serve as role models for the students. Mentors also foster students’
personal and social growth while supporting the goals of NJ GEAR UP.

The shelter has the capacity for hundreds of animals, and the shelter workers

Many volunteer opportunities such as helping cats and dogs cope with the stress
of the shelter environment by providing them with exercise, attention and

The Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge actively assists in conserving,
protecting and enhancing fish and wildlife and their habitats as well as
providing educational and recreational opportunities for the refuge. An
estimated 250,000 visitors come to the 47,000-acre Edwin B. Forsythe National
Wildlife Refuge each year to observe wildlife, photograph migratory birds, bike
the 8-mile Refuge drive, walk the nature trails and attend educational programs.
The Refuge, which spans 50 miles of southern New Jersey’s coastline, is made up
of salt marsh, woodlands and freshwater habitats. The property, located in one
of the Atlantic Flyway’s most active flight paths, is protected and managed to
conserve the region’s biodiversity. Volunteers are needed to assist with
environmental education, public relations campaigns, marketing strategies,
web presence, and social media efforts to spread the word about the events
and activities sponsored by the Refuge and the Friends of Forsythe.

The Pitman Pantry is a cooperative ministry of five Pitman churches to feed those
