Welcome to My Life: Students reflect on their academic past and goals for academic achievement in the
present and future.
English IV Standard ~ Mr. Brassard
Purpose: Students begin to make connections between their school career and their future beyond high
school, while associating common themes in various genres and the view of their individual life.
Objectives
A2: Reading literary text
b. Evaluate the theme or themes, whether explicitly stated or implied, in a literary text
c. Identify and compare and analyze recurring themes across works
g. Compare types of poetry
A4: Writing persuasive expository
b. Employ a variety of persuasive techniques including anticipating, addressing and refuting potential
counterclaims in a thesis-driven logical argument to influence the opinion, belief, or position of
others.
Assignment Prerequisites: Completion of unit readings and scaffolding assignments.
Time Allotment: One (1) week after completing unit readings and assignments. Students should begin
working on the assessment at the beginning of the unit; review final assessment while review the unit so
that kids will understand the goal of the unit.
Product: Students will be given 6 options as to how they will create and present this assessment. There
will be a common grading rubric for the final unit assessment.

Academic Biographical Presentation
English IV Standard ~ Mr. Brassard
The material we have read for this unit all have common themes: the value of education
and how academic choices you make today will affect your life tomorrow. You will now
create a presentation that explains your past academic beliefs and the choices you need to
make today to create a positive change for your future beyond high school. You will use
passages from the material we read to support your points. You may also use other
information and/or images to support your arguments, but you are not required to do so.
Procedures
1. Read all of the material presented in class and complete the assignments. These will
be the foundation for your presentation.
2. Choose one of the follow options to create your presentation and complete a plan
that will be passed into Mr. Brassard. (We will do this in class)
3. Create your presentation.
4. Present your presentation to the class.
Please note: Regardless of how you choose to present your information, you will be
graded using the same grading rubric.
Option 1: Write an essay that clearly explains your past academic beliefs and the choices you
need to make today to create a positive change for your future beyond high school. You will
use passages from the material we read to support your points.
Option 2: Create a large poster (minimum of 24” x 30”) explains your past academic beliefs
and the choices you need to make today to create a positive change for your future beyond
high school. You will use passages from the material we read to support your points.
Option 3: Create a PowerPoint Presentation that explains your past academic beliefs and the
choices you need to make today to create a positive change for your future beyond high
school. You will use passages from the material we read to support your points.
Option 4: Create a storyboard for an animated film that explains your past academic beliefs
and the choices you need to make today to create a positive change for your future beyond
high school. You will use passages from the material we read to support your points.
Option 5: Create an Alternative Visual Representation that explains your past academic
beliefs and the choices you need to make today to create a positive change for your future
beyond high school. You will use passages from the material we read to support your points.
Using one of the various computer software programs, create a version of:
A webpage
A blog
A computer or video game


ALL VISUALS MUST BE CREATED ON YOUR OWN COMPUTER AS A STANDALONE
VISUAL.
DO NOT USE MYSPACE; DO NOT USE FACEBOOK, OR ANY OTHER WEBBASED
SOFTWARE!
Option 6: Create an Alternative Representation that explains your past academic beliefs and
the choices you need to make today to create a positive change for your future beyond high
school. You will use passages from the material we read to support your points.
Possible examples could include, but are not limited to:



An original song – created and sung in front of the class by you (live or recorded)
An original poem – recited to the class by you
An original 1 person play – acted in front of the class by you
Grading Rubric: You will be graded on a 4 point scale for 6 different standards, for a total
possible points of 24. See attached rubric and the grade equivalent scoring chart below.
