JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: University Football Activator Faculty/Centre: Sport & Recreation – Sports Development Team Department/Service: Location: Responsible to: Spinnaker Sports Centre Working Hours: Salary: 30 Weeks – term time only / 4 hours per week £7.21 per hour UP for Sport Development Officer Purpose of Job: The University of Portsmouth are offering a new and exciting University Football Activator role to support and develop our Intramural Football Leagues, and co-ordinate the newly established FA Referee Hub. This role will also work with student football coaches, strengthening the links to wider community football programmes and the University’s Junior Football Club. The focus will be on the growth of new players, developing current referees along with recruiting and supporting new referees. The University Football Activator will be heavily supported by the County FA and work in partnership with BUCS. Key Responsibilities: Intramural: Increase student players and teams through promotion of the Intramural Football Leagues Be the first point of contact for Intramural referees throughout the leagues Allocate referees for intramural leagues and tournaments Organise and chair Intramural referee meetings and training Ensure new FA Referee Hub members are mentored by existing Intramural referees Strengthen links with the University’s Athletic Union to improve club development Gain player feedback using current Intramural survey FA Referee Hub: Recruit new FA Referee Hub members Liaise with Hampshire FA to organise referee CPD opportunities Organise & chair meetings with FA Hub members Assist Hub members with refereeing pathways & placements UP for Sport: Build school club links for the University’s Junior Football Club Promote football coaching & refereeing opportunities to students for community clubs, intramural leagues & schools programmes Overall: Work closely with BUCS to enrol volunteer referees and coaches to the Football Futures programme Use marketing & promotion to attract new players and referees Promote the National Referee Development Programme 1 Create a quarterly newsletter for all referee hub members Any other duties linked to the Intramural leagues and referees, as and when required Working Relationships: Relevant internal services such as Athletic Union, Corporate Communications & Department of Sport and Exercise Science External partners including NGB’s, BUCS, School Sport partnership, Community Clubs, Schools & County Sports partnerships Volunteers – Students and staff Colleagues – Across all levels within Sport & Recreation and the wider University community Benefits: Gain essential experience and knowledge to further your career options Access to further training and qualifications relevant to the role Opportunity to be mentored by a full time member of County FA staff.
