PE… … at Francis Combe School The PE Department at Francis Combe School and Community College is ready to move into its next phase of curriculum development. We now have new Tennis and Netball courts, Football, Rugby and American Football Pitches and joint ownership of a full size flood lit Astroturf pitch. To complete the rejuvenation programme, further works are planned including a full size sports hall, multi use games area and new summer sports facilities. As well as physical improvements, we have again increased the level of staffing and were pleased to welcome a new teacher to the PE team this academic year bringing us to our full compliment of staff – three Girls’ and three Boys’ Teachers. With this expansion of staff and improvement of facilities has come our improved ability to compete with and beat the bigger schools in our area - on a regular basis! PE is delivered across all Key Stages and the department is particularly strong at GCSE and BTEC Sport (Performance) with our biggest uptake of these subjects to date. We have recently re-instated AS and A2 with positive results. There is a full range of extra curricular activities including Rock Climbing, Trampolining, Lacrosse, Tennis, Table Tennis, Cheer-leading, as well as the more traditional school sports. The department is in the process of moving out of a faculty system, which consisted of Performance Studies subjects, into a new era incorporating Sport and Health, which will be led by our new Head of Learning. We believe Physical Education provides an ideal opportunity for young people to express and challenge themselves in a positive manner within a safe but exciting educational environment. If you share this vision, and you feel you can offer the department the leadership and drive to continue its journey into a new era then you could very well be the new colleague we are looking for!
