Informational Handouts
President Karnig discussed the following information handouts:

A chart entitled “California State University, Three-Year Comparison
Institution Fee Data.”

An article from the Press-Enterprise dated May 2, entitled “State Bucks
College Trend.”

A chart entitled “California, Appropriations of State Tax Funds for Operating
Expenses of higher Education, Fiscal Years 2000-01 (Revised) and 2001-02
in California”

An article from Higher Education and National Affairs dated April 29, entitled
“Five-Year Persistence Rates Top 60 Percent for All Groups, But Degree
Type Differs by Family Income”
Gift Acceptance Policy (3rd Reading)
Associate Vice President McNamara reviewed the editorial changes made to the policy.
Clarification of the role of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
Expansion of statement regarding acknowledgement of the value of in-kind gifts.
The Administrative Council recommended the policy for approval.
New Business
Dean Jackson briefed Council members on a possible opportunity for CSUSB to have
space in the American Products Export and Exchange Center due to open in October in
Shanghai, China. CSUSB will be one of two universities to have space in the complex to
offer degree and training programs. The cost to CSUSB will be $1.00 per year for the
first two years. President Karnig said that the colleges should consider ways to take
advantage of these new linkages.
Dean Conley announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the
Sheriff’s Department to establish a consortium to train and educate public safety
employees.
Dean Carlson stated that currently there are seven students who have been admitted as
President Scholars. Ms. McNamara offered to be in charge of making personal phone
calls to students who have not yet accepted the scholarships or have been admitted to
CSUSB. She requested that the Deans provide assistance in making the calls.
President Karnig requested that the Deans be supportive of this project and to provide
assistance. He also requested that next year the students be asked to provide
information regarding their potential course of study interests
Mr. Delgado announced that on May 19 the first induction of Golden Key members is
being held in the Upper Commons, 3:30 p.m. Mr. Delgado also announced that Phi
Kappa Phi is interested in providing funds for assistance to Presidential Scholars for
items such as books and other supplies.
Ms. Pringle announced the form to provide information regarding news releases is now
on the Public Affairs website. Ms. Pringle reminded the Council that information should
be forwarded four weeks prior to the date of the release.
Dr. McGowan announced that applications are up 18% and admits are up 14%.
Dr. Rincon announced that Ted Krug has resigned as Director of Financial Aid. Mr.
Hank Kutak will serve as Interim Director during the search for a Director.
Ms. McNamara announced the CSU Vice Chancellor for Advancement has awarded
$20,000 to CSUSB for Planned Giving.
Vice President DeMauro announced open sessions for three candidates for the position
of Director of Public Safety would soon be announced.
President Karnig announced that a new high school in Rialto would be named the
“Wilmer Amina Carter High School.”
Dr. Karnig recognized and complimented the Deans for their support of one another by
attending events and activities. He also announced there has been success in terms of
recruiting first choices of faculty and congratulated the Deans on their success.
