Chantiers jeunesse Maroc (CJM)
I - A brief historical view
The voluntary service started in Morocco with a great historical project "the Road of Unity" 12000
young volunteers had to build a road which linked the central zone which was under the Frensh
domination to the north of the country which was dominated by the Spanish.
This project took place the year Morocco got independent, that is in 1956. In 1961 a group of
volunteers from "the Road of Unity" together with another group of youth which had some
experience in voluntary service through their participation in international workcamps in Europe
undertook the creation of a national structure dealing with voluntary service.
"Chantiers Jeunesse Maroc" was born and can be considered as a continuation of the spirit of the
"Road of Unity" "Chantiers Jeunesse Maroc", since it was born participed in different important
national projects such as "DERRO" (Economical and rural development of the occidental Rif)
(1968-1969) , Haouz , a project in which young farmers where taught new agricultural techniques
preparing for the change in the regime follarving the introduction of irragation , the school canteen
operation , building of schools , canteen in rural primary schools and different campaigns against
illeteracy.
Today, with a rich experience behind it, CJM is preparing itself to enter new fields of concern such
as the preservation of the environment, the preservation of the architectural heritage and social
work in its varios faces.
II - Chantiers Jeunesse Maroc's activities
The association managed to assert its existence in the national level where its presence has been
confirmed by different activities undertaken by the locals branchs which covert great deal of the
territory .Among its activities we can note:
 The organisation of international workcamps through the country.
 Exchange of volunteers and of camps leaders.
 Organisations of camp-leader training session, seminaries, ...
 Publication of pamphlets dealing with associative work.
III - Chantiers Jeunesse Maroc
Chantiers Jeunesse Maroc wiches to achieve through its activities social, cultural and educational
goals:
 The formation of citizen responsable towards himself and society.
 The contribution in the social and economical development of the under-privileged classes.
 The development of exchange between youth of different horizons throuth international
workcamps.
 The development of the group spirit in individuals.
 The strengthening of friendship, peace and solidarity values.
IV - Chantiers Jeunesse Maroc's contacts and relations Since its creation CJM has enriched its
experience benefiting from different experiences of others. Besides its being a founding member
of UMAC (1963) (Moroccan Union of Workcamps Association) it has developed a network of
international contacts with more 90 organisations

Tangiers is an ancient Moroccan city. its situation at the extreme north of Africa at the Gibraltar Detroit has
made of it for a long time the gate to Morocco.
Melloussa is about 18 km at the east of Tangiers
“Chantiers jeunesse Maroc” will organise a workcamp with thecollaboration of the delegation of youth
Ministry
Nature of the work: The work consists of painting, creating frescoes and gardening in the “Maison des
jeunes Melloussa ”. The duration of work is 5 hours a day.
Meals: Meals will be prepared by volunteers.
Number of participants:20
Leisure activities: Volunteers will have to setup their own programme of leisure activities.
There are some hints to help you setup this programme.
Going to the beaches of the region (Mediterannee) : Tanger , Ksar sghir, visiting the Médina and Kasbah of
Tangiers and Hercules cave.
You will also have to bring with them working clothes, a sleeping bag, and anything which could contribute
to the good progress of the workcamp (game sets musical instruments, cooking recipe, etc….)
This will give you an interesting opportunity to discover cultural reality and habits of the
local population.
Lodging: the volunteers will be lodged in “Maison des jeunes ”, commune Malloussa; région Fahs AnjraTanger

By train from the airport: From Casablanca Mohammed V airport, take the train to Casablanca voyageurs
railway station and from there take a train to Tanger ville train station , and get off there, from there take a
small taxi to “plaça Toro station” take a big taxi to Malloussa(Malloussa , is a village at 18 km to the East of
Tanger , route nationale No2, direction Tétouan).

Nador is a city on the Mediterranean coast East of Morocco at 135 km to the west of Oujda ,
situated on a big lagoon , called Marchica lagoon , its population is about 300 000 .
“chantiers jeunesse Maroc” is organizing a workcamp with the collaboration of the Nador
delegation of Ministry of education.
Nature of the work: The work consists of laying out, and gardening and painting in school. The
duration of work is 5 hours a day. The work will be going hand in hand with other activities which
will be undertaken by the volunteers themselves: outings, family visits, cultural entertainment,
sports, visits historic monuments
Lodging: The volunteers will be lodging in school at 10 km from Nador center
Meals: will be prepared by volunteers.
Leisure activities:
Volunteers will have to setup their own programme of leisure activities.
There are some hints to help you setup this programme.
Volunteers could go the beaches of the region, they are very close Mediterranee (cap de
l’eau,
Saidia, Arekmane , Marchika Laguna etc)
You will also have to bring with you working clothes, a sleeping bag, and anything which could
contribute to the good progress of the workcamp (game sets, musical instruments, cooking recipe,
etc...).

Fès is also the capital of skilled-craft, specialized in pottery, copperplates, and lather work. It's known by its
monuments: Fès El Bali, la medina, El Attarin, l'horloge, Mosqué ElQuaraouiyine

The historic city of Larache is situated on the Atlantic coast of Morocco at 92 km in the south of
Tangiers , approximately 107 000 inhabitants. The climate is agreable in summer 27° C.
The historic monuments of Lixus at 5km from Larache.
The liberation square in the center of Larache is very nice :Identical to the plaza Mayor found in
most Spanish cities ; the proximity of beautifull beaches make of Larache a touristic attraction.

Taroudant is an old city 70 km east of Agadir, it is known for its remparts ; its geographical
situation close
To the high Atlas Mountains and the doors of the desert.

Nature of the work: Volunteers will have to work in the creation of the green space in the city of
Taroudant:
Gardening , painting.
The duration of work is 5 hours a day.
Meals: Meals will be prepared by volunteers.

Visiting Agadir and its beaches.
There are some oasis close to Taroudant such as Tiliouine and the Kasbah of Glaoui.
You will also have to bring with them working clothes, a sleeping bag, and anything which could contribute
to the good progress of the workcamp (game sets musical instruments, cooking recipe, etc….)
This will give you an interesting opportunity to discover cultural reality and habits of the local population.

Oujda it’s an important city on the north east of Morocco , some 15 km from the Algerian border and
50 km from mediterr nean coast.
"Chantiers jeunesse Maroc"is organizing a workcamp with collaboration the city council of Oujda.
Number of participants: 20.
Nature of the project: gardening and painting and cleaning in “Centre Ennour pour les services sociaux,
culturels et sportifs” Oujda.
The duration of work will be 5 hours /a day.
Meals: Meals will be prepared by volunteers.
Leisure activities
Volunteers will have to setup their own programme of leisure activities.
There are some hints to help you setup this programme.
Oujda is in the north east of Morocco at 50 km from Mediterranean coast; Saadia beaches , well know
throughout Morocco
You will also have to bring with you working clothes, a sleeping bag, and anything which could contribute
to the good progress of the workcamp (game sets, musical instruments, cooking recipe, etc….)
Lodging: the volunteers w’ll be lodging in “Centre Ennour pour les services sociaux, culturels et sportifs”
Oujda.

Ahfir is a small town on the border with Algeria , 10 km away from the Mediterranean coast, it is
know for its naturel surroundings , beaches , naturel reserves of birth, it is 37 km from Oujda.
Chantiers jeunesse Maroc is organizing a workcamp with a collaboration of Ministry of Education.
Number of participants: 20.
Nature of the project: gardening and painting and cleaning in a school.
The duration of work will be 5 hours /a day.
Meals: Meals will be prepared by volunteers.
Leisure activities
Volunteers will have to setup their own programme of leisure activities.
There are some hints to help you setup this programme.
Ahfir is very close to the Mediteranean coast. Saadia beaches will known throughout
Morocco.
You could also visit the region many beaches.
You will also have to bring with you working clothes, a sleeping bag, and anything which could
contribute to the good progress of the workcamp (game sets, musical instruments, cooking recipe,
etc….)

Tangiers is an ancient Moroccan city. its situation at the extreme north of Africa at the Gibraltar Detroit has
made of it for a long time the gate to Morocco.
Commune bahraouiyine is about 12 km at the east of Tangiers
“Chantiers jeunesse Maroc” will organise a workcamp with thecollaboration of the delegation of youth
Ministry
Nature of the work: The work consists of painting, creating frescoes and gardening in the “Maison des
jeunes Bahraouiyine ”. The duration of work is 5 hours a day.

Meals: Meals will be prepared by volunteers.
Leisure activities: Volunteers will have to setup their own programme of leisure activities.
There are some hints to help you setup this programme.
Going to the beaches of the region (Mediterannee) : Tanger , Ksar sghir, visiting the Médina and Kasbah of
Tangiers and Hercules cave.
You will also have to bring with them working clothes, a sleeping bag, and anything which could
contribute to the good progress of the workcamp (game sets musical instruments, cooking recipe, etc….)
This will give you an interesting opportunity to discover cultural reality and habits of the
local population.

Leaving Rabat crossing the majestic moulay Hassan bridge towoards Salé whitch is an old city composed of two
parts, the old Medina where life withing its medieval limits still remain susprisingly traditional and where many
important historical monuments such as the Medersa and old mosques could be found (built in 1341) many
monumental gates, the “Grande mosque” , the Medina and the mellah (jewist qarter ) and many other well worth
visiting places , stand up fightingagainst time.
The second part (called , la ville nouvelle) located outside the wall of the old Medina, is well known by its
“jardin exotique” a garden which is full of precarious bamboo bridges , dot-directed routes , where one can
wander throuth a sequence of brilliant regional creations, “la ville nouvelle” is also famous by its “plages des
nations” a relaxed and friendly place with an excellent beach( to swim is dangerous).
In few words, Salé is a city of wonderful beaches (two) well worth seing monuments , a vast forest(Maamora)
and of other things to be seen and not talked about; let alone what can be seen in its neighbour Rabat
(the capital of Morocco separated from Salé only by river.

You will also have to bring with you working clothes, a sleeping bag, and anything which could contribute to the good

Fès is also the capital of skilled-craft, specialized in pottery, copperplates, and lather work. It's known by its
monuments: Fès El Bali, la medina, El Attarin, l'horloge, Mosqué ElQuaraouiyine

El Hajeb is Town situated in the middle Atlas at 25 kms to the south - east of Meknès.
It is famous for the snowfall during winter and mild temperature in summer. The middle Atlas big summits: Michlifen,
Hibri and Habri are at height of 2000 m. The area is also covered with tremendous forests. I’s known by its panoramic
naturel view and authentic monuments: “Ksour Ifkern” at 1700m high.
“Chantiers jeunesse Maroc” is organizing a workcamp with the collaboration with city council of El Hajeb.
the work consists of gardening and painting a freoscos in the center of El Hajeb.
The duration of work is 5 hours a day.

You will also have to bring with them working clothes, a sleeping bag, and anything which could
contribute to the good progress of the workcamp (game sets, musical instruments, cooking recipe,
etc….). This will give you an interesting opportunity to discover cultural reality and habits of the

Rabat has been designated as the capital of Morocco in the beginning of the last century, but it did not wait till the 20th
century to be distinguished as a city .The remparts, the huge historical gates, and hassan tower are there to remind us
of that. The climate is agreable in summer.
It's known by its nice beaches about 15 km to the south of Rabat.
"Chantiers jeunesse Maroc"is organizing a workcamp with the collaboration with the “délégation entraide
nationale “ Skhirat Témara
Nature of the project: gardening and frescoes in “Dar Ettaliba sidi yahya Zaier”
The duration of work will be 4 hours /a day.
Meals: Meals will be prepared by volunteers.

Leisure activities:
Volunteers will have to setup their own programme of leisure activities.
There are some hints to help you setup this programme.
Volunteers will enjoy going to the beaches (Témara , Skhirat and Bouznika) and visit historical monuments:
Kasbah des Oudayas, Tour Hassan: Roman vestige of Chellah and the Médina of Rabat , the handicrafts
complexe of Salé.
You will also have to bring with you working clothes, a sleeping bag, and anything which could contribute to the good
progress of the workcamp (game sets, musical instruments, cooking recipe, etc….)

How to get there
If you came by plane: From Casablanca Mohammed V airport take the train to Rabat ville, railway station and get off there. From
there , you have to walk 10 mn to Bab El Had place.
From 'place Bab El Had in Rabat center , Take a bus number 18 to Sidi Yahya Zaier (there is one every 15 mn)
distance 22km , trip time 1hour 10mn,
when you arrive at sidi yahya Zaier you should get off at bus stop near "La commune" , camp leader will waiting for
you , you have to walk 50 meters to "Dar Ettaliba sidi yahya Zaier " place of accomodation
