History Department (Mr. Apter’s Class) CESJDS 7th Grade History November 27, 2012 -Culturegram Assignment 100 points The CultureGram project gives every seventh grader an opportunity to research and write about a country in Latin America. Throughout the next several weeks, you will research a country’s culture, geography, history, and people. The project will consist of two products: o A Research Paper (5 paragraph essay) [35 points] o A Digital Poster [35 points] Classwork and class notes will be worth 30 points Student Responsibility: All research, writing and designing will be completed in class; however, you must keep up with the daily tasks so that you are not behind the class. Hand drawn maps will be kept in a student folder (that will be kept by me). All hand written material must be kept in the student folder. At some points, you may feel that you are behind or confused. Please be proactive and approach me to resolve any issues. As this is a long-term project, you need to be responsible for your own work. We have learned many key ideas, strategies and terms that will be essential to understand and employ throughout this project. Please make sure you are prepared to use the following: o CIA World Fact Book and the Terms we have learned o Map Skills o Ideas of plagiarism and paraphrasing o Essay writing (and following an essay rubric) During each day, you will need to fill out the checklist to acquire the points for the class work. How might the _____________________ map you have found relate to the location of the major cities or physical features on the map you have drawn? Be specific and detailed. (Hint: Think about how we have defined culture, and the influence of geography.) The two maps I used were population and climate I noticed that the areas that had over 500 people were in the climate zones were it was humid and no dry season , also near the coast and were it was colder . I think the reason why this occurred was people want to have the best weather possible and the number of people in an area is connected to the area what climate it is. The major cities are mostly in the climate zones were it is colder I think that is so because a long time ago when people were settling they wanted to build and live where it does not have a big dry season . The major cities are more on the west side of Bolivia probably because that is closer to the sea and where the bodies of water and river are located. The big cities are also located next to the mountains I think because rivers come from the mountains and that is a good physical feature to be located next to, and they need that to survive.
