Go to http://finance.yahoo.com/ and click on
Industries.
Then click on Complete Industry List…
Select an industry that interest you (avoid financial,
healthcare, insurance, etc.) and click to go to that page.
Then click on Industry Browser.
In the company list page, click on Net Profit Margin% to sort by that ratio. Prepare a
short comparative analysis of a low margin and a high margin company. Pick companies
where the comparison is reasonable and meaningful. Click on the company name to go
to that company’s profile.
In the company’s profile, investigate Key Statistics, SEC Filings, Competitors, Industry,
etc.
Your comparative analysis of the two companies should address why one is more
profitable than the other. Reference to information contained in financial statements will
enhance the quality of your paper.
