*Each speaker will address the audience for up to 45 minutes, followed by a brief question time. Notes: Parking is available near the
lecture theatre (signed street parking and UQ Centre) and in the multi-storey car parks on Sir Fred Schonell Drive. Morning tea and
refreshments will be available at small cost in the foyer. Lunch is available at outlets on campus (refer to notices in foyer). There are
also cafes and restaurants at St Lucia village, about 10 minutes’ walk or a short drive from the lecture theatre. The R.D. Milns
Antiquities Museum will be open during the lunch break. Book display/s and sales in theatre foyer. Continuing Professional
Development certificates may be ordered on the day (at a cost to cover postage, etc.). Public Lecture: Friday 6th August, Abel Smith

FREE PUBLIC LECTURE - FRIDAY 6TH AUGUST
As part of Ancient History Day 2010 (see over for details), there will be a free public lecture,
commencing at 8pm and followed by a light supper, on the topic
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF POMPEII
presented by
Professor Frank Sear, FAHA, FSA
University of Melbourne
This lecture examines how the inhabitants of Pompeii, both rich and
poor, spent their day. It begins by showing where they lived, what
they did in the morning, what they ate for lunch, and how they spent
their afternoons. It looks at the markets, the shops, the political system,
religion and the festivals. It concludes with a dinner party and examines
how the Pompeians dined and what they ate.
