SILVER END YOUTH FOOTBALL CLUB Blackwater & Dengie Youth Football League Under 7s Crouch Division Thaxted Rangers U7's v Silver End Youth U7's 9/12/2012 I have to open this match report with an apology to Joe as his Mum quite rightly told me off for getting his surname wrong last week. Think she wants the job !!! Surprisingly after all the bad weather of late this game managed to survive. On a postage stamp of a pitch which was extremely heavy Sammy Sopowski was the star player completing his second hat trick in as many weeks to cap a wonderful weekend as he celebrated his seventh birthday. The tightness of the pitch meant the game got bogged down a lot of the time but the dogged persistence of Joe Vogler was the difference between the two sides early on as he forced his way through the pack to create some early chances. He almost opened the scoring when Sammy drove across the box but Joe could not quite add the finishing touch. Sammy rounded the keeper but was blocked out and Joe saw another effort cleared off the line. Scott Howe Burke and Adam Robley both controlled the back line with some composure making crucial interceptions and blocking efforts on goal. Adam by far had his best game in the claret and blue of Silver End and can be well satisfied with his performance. Liam Hircock worked hard making tackle after tackle and Ethan Skubich's delivery from corners created a lot of anxiety in the Thaxted penalty area. It was not long before Sammy netted his first controlling a difficult ball to hammer home. A penalty area scramble lead to Sammy's second as he managed to push the ball goalwards and saw his effort go in off the far post Jacob Chillingworth was again solid in the Silver End goal making some crucial saves but his delivery from the back allowed Silver End to push forward with some menace. Thaxted pulled a goal back with a fine effort early in the second half. Callum Pretty had an excellent game at the back his positioning was key to his game today and when Thaxted threatened Callum was there to make an interception or make that crucial tackle, Callum's improvement over the last few weeks has been phenomenal. As for Emily well she was everywhere today wherever the play was she was battling to win the ball, don't mind getting stuck in does Emily and she stands up for herself when it is needed. Joe went close in the second half driving a ball across goal which narrowly missed the far post, goals will come for Joe as long as he keeps going as he has done of late. Again Ethan went close nad he too will deliver goals I am sure of that. It was however left to the goal machine that is Sammy Sopowski to score the best goal of the game as he ran on from midfield and smashed the ball into the roof of the net. Never look apologetic when you score Sammy goals like that today deserve a bit of celebration. Callum almost scored his first gaol for the Club as Sammy worked hard to win possession crossed low and hard and Callum with the goal at his mercy could not quite deflect the ball into the net, a goal which would have capped a fine performance. Another excellent performance and again you could see that the team are trying hard to play football. Some nice neat triangles today which over time will develop. Again worth reiterating a good team performance where any of the 9 could quite rightly have collected the Man of the Match honours so all should be proud of their achievements today. Well done to Caroline whose confidence grows week on week and her new assistant Lee Vogler. Thanks also to the parents for their excellent support and encouragement. The signs are good for this team.
