Other Reports
MCCDEC – Bob Marsh/ Bruce Yuille
There was a MCCDEC meeting in September, two main issues were discussed:
- Performance based funding formula information
- New Perkin’s legislation (some differences in definitions which will mean that trends
will no longer be able to be followed, 1P1 is no longer required)
MLAD – Roy Smith
Has not met, will meet on Friday of this week. We need a new representative from MLAD.

MACET – Victoria Corriveau
No report.
MOSPA – Linda Minter
Linda explained what MOSPA was and what they do for all the new members. There is some
concern that the new reauthorized Perkins Act and the possibility that the category for
academically disadvantaged individuals will no longer be counted, since 1P1 was eliminated.
TRENDS conference – Judy Stark and Dan Woodworth
Judy reported that we had 445+ registrations for this years TRENDS. She showed us the “give
away” for this years conference, and asked us to acknowledge the work of Misty and Nancy and
thank them for all their efforts. She will be bringing, in December, a proposal for an increase in
registration fee for next year.
Future TRENDS dates are:
2007 – October 24th – 26th
2008 – October 1st – 3rd
2009 – October 7th – 9th
NCWE Representative report – Mary Smith
No report. Derrick Mann just reminded everyone of the conference dates of October 21st -24th .
Working Connections – Linda West/Bill Barber
The conference took place in July. The cost of the rooms was broken out from the registration
fee this year. There were 50+ participants/ 4 tracs; in the past they had 100+ participants/ 6
tracs. Henry Ford CC’s new president encourages them to continue with the conference and
they are looking at possibly changing the time to earlier in the summer, June perhaps. They will
continue to encourage secondary schools, four year colleges and some cc’s from Ohio to join.
MCCETI – Patti Henning/Jay Anderson
They met at Lake Michigan last and will be meeting at Lansing CC next. Still need point
contacts for Gogebic and Southwestern Michigan. Web site is up and functioning and they are
working on a final mission statement.
ByLaws Committee – Chuck Parker
There was a recommended change in Section 2. – Special Meetings.
The following wording:
“Written notice of the time, place, and purpose of any special meeting shall be mailed to each
member at least ten days in advance of the date for which the meeting is called; ”
was changed to:
“Members will be notified of the time, place and purpose of any special meeting at least ten
days in advance of the date for which the meeting is called.”
The ByLaws were passed with the above mentioned change in Section 2 – Special.
MDLEG report – Ron Harkness
Before Ron gave his report, Jim Folkening indicated that DLEG/CCSU does not have it’s own
listserve for this group, they use the MODAC listserve. All changes need to be directed to Jean
Bailey at Montcalm, where the listserve is hosted.
Jim also handed out information on a video conference for Career Clusters.

What’s happening with Nano-Technology? – Jay Anderson
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
Delta College has a Intro course/survey course that is being used by various
divisions within the college as awareness. It is a social science course which is team
taught. Information is available on their web site.
Jim Sawyer from Macomb stated they are struggling with how nano-technology fits at
the two year college level; it’s very expensive and it seems a little too early for some
of us at the two year schools.
Phil Hale from Oakland echoed Jim’s concern about job opportunities. He see
potential in the future for instrumentation operators and repair techs.
Monroe just hired someone with some expertise they they hope will help lead them.
They already have started doing things with materials/particles at the metallurgy
level.
Primarily the discussion focused on not being at the stage for curriculum
development yet.
Potential in the Process Technology areas.
Questions/Hot Topics Discussions
Bob Marsh was wondering how the data collection for Tech Prep tracking is going or did go?
Some of the responses were:
- small numbers
- didn’t get data from all schools
- a lot of manual effort
- Lake Michigan reported that their cooperation with their local ISD improved over the
process
- Kellogg said the plus side was getting these students identified for marketing
purposes
Allen Yeck from Bay College made the following inquiries of the group:
1. Asked if any colleges were doing anything with MOUS (Microsoft) Certification.
Montcalm is using the Certaport System, which is online.
2. Asked if anyone was doing adult GED training or testing – the response was it’s very
expensive. GRCC is using a community grant to fund their activities.
3. Asked about room scheduling software – several colleges responded:
a. Monroe is implementing a new system
b. Lansing and NMC is using “Series 25”
c. NCMC is using Scheduler Plus
Apprenticeship Program

MODAC Minutes
October 11, 2006
Bob Moorish(HFCC), Howard Hypes (Bricklayers Union), and Russ Davis (Delta) gave a
presentation on a statewide program to develop a two-way articulation model between 19
building trades unions and community colleges. They are looking for a process for marketing
this agreement and were hoping that MODAC would endorse the articulation model. After much
discussion about the relationship between the unions and the community colleges the following
motion was made:
“MODAC supports the concept; and will identify a subcommittee to move the process forward
for possible adoption by individual colleges at a future date.”
The motion was unanimously approved.
Jim Sawyer, Phil Hale and Roy Smith will meet with Russ Davis to move the process forward.
Derrick Manns invited the members to a networking conference at WCCC on
October 24th.
Meeting was adjourned at 4:10 p.m.
