COURSE SELECTIONS FOR FALL 2015 GRADE 12 STUDENTS
ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS (A research paper is a requirement for all E7 courses)
EES87 English 12 Term 1 – for students who have completed EES85/EES86 (English 11 Term 1 and 2).
EES87H English 12 Term 1 Honors – for EES86H (English 11 Term 2 Honors) students with 85+ average and 80+ on the English
Regents and for EES86/EES86QD (English 11 Term 2/English 11 Term 2 Drama) students with 85+ average and 80+ on the English
Regents.
EES87QQW English 12 Term 1 Creative Writing - for EES86/EES86QD (English 11 Term 2) students who have achieved a score of
75+ on the English Regents. This course explores the many areas of writing: poetry, dramatic scripts, and prose.
EES87QQR - English 12 Term 1 – for E5/E6 (English 11 Term1 and 2) students who have not yet achieved a score of 65/75 on the
English Regents. In addition to the EES87 curriculum, students will receive preparation for the required January Regents
Examination.
EES87QD English 12 Term 1 Drama- for students who have completed EES85/EES86 (English 11 Term 1 and 2) or EES86QD
(English 11 Term 2 Drama) have achieved a score of 65 on the English Regents and wish to study literature with a drama focus. Oral
recitation is required.
EES87X English 12 Term 1 Advanced Placement English – for Institute students and for EES86/EES86QD/EES86H (English 6)
students, who have maintained a 90+ average, achieved a score of 85+ on the English Regents. Teacher’s recommendation only.
Please submit recommendations to Ms. Castelli in Rm. C206. Students are required to take the College Board Advanced Placement
Examination fee required.
ELS21QG English Studies in Short, Graphic and Serialized Fiction -- for EES86/EES86QD (English 11 Term 2) students who
have achieved a score of 75+ on the English Regents. This EES87 core course wish to study literature with a focus on graphic novels,
as well as various types of short and serialized fiction. This is not an elective course.
EJS21QQY Journalism English – English Elective –for students who would like study literature with an emphasis on
journalism/media. Students will be expected to contribute to the development of the school newspaper. This class is in addition to
any EES87 course (English 12).
SOCIAL STUDIES
HVS11 Participation in Government – for students who have completed HUS21/HUS22 (U.S. History Term 1/2)
HVS11H Participation in Government Honors – for HUS22H (U.S. History Term 2 Honors) students and H4 (Global History 10
Term 4) students with an 85+ average and a score of 80+ on the U.S. History Regents.
HVS11QGT Participation in Government – This core course is for students enrolled in an approved CTE sequence and other students
interested in Green technology. The core course will encompass both HVS11/HES11 (spring) curriculum and additional lessons and
activities pertaining to green technology and how it impacts economics. This course fulfills the Career & Financial Management
requirement for approved CTE sequences.
HVS21X Advanced Placement U.S. Government and Politics – for Institute students and HUS22H (U.S. History Term 2 Honors) and
HUS22 (U.S. History Term 2) students who have maintained a 85+ average and achieved a score of 85+ on the U.S. History Regents.
Assistant Principal’s recommendation only. Students are required to take the College Board Advanced Placement Examination (test
fee required). Please note: The HVS11 (Participation in Gov’t.) requirement will be fulfilled with this course; however, students who
have yet to complete HES11 (Economics) will be programmed for HES11 (Economics) for the spring semester.
MATHEMATICS
Please note CUNY ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS (effective as of Fall 2015): One Mathematics Regents
Examination with a score of 80 or higher and successful completion of Integrated Algebra, Geometry, and
Algebra 2/Trigonometry classes.
MQS21QCA College Readiness Math Term 1– for students with less than an 80 average. This course prepares students for the
College Board SAT exam and the City University of New York Placement (CUNY) examination. This course should only be used for
students who have satisfied the (6) math required credits. No exceptions – This is an annualized course and students must remain
in this course for the fall/spring term.
MPS21HQS Pre-Calculus Term 1 Honors – for students who completed and maintained a 75+ average in MRS21/MRS22 (Algebra
2/Trigonometry Term1/2) and passed the Algebra2/Trigonometry Regents.
MCS21H Calculus Term 1 Honors– for students who have completed MPS22HQJ (Pre-Calculus Honors with an 85+ average.) Math
teacher recommendation required.
MCS21XBC Advanced Placement Calculus BC Term 1 – for Institute students and students who have completed and maintained a
90+ average in MPS22HQJ (Pre-Calculus Honors). Students are required to take the College Board Advanced Placement
Examination (test fee required). 2 terms of college credit if students successfully pass the A.P exam. Math teacher’s recommendation
required. (double period)
MCS21XAB Advanced Placement Calculus AB Term 1 – for Institute students and students who have completed and maintained a
90+ average in MPS22HQJ (Pre-Calculus Honors). Students are required to take the College Board Advanced Placement
Examination (test fee required). Math teacher’s recommendation required. 1 term of college credit if students successfully pass the
A.P exam. (single period)
MPS21QQT Pre-Calculus Term 1- for students who have successfully completed MRS21/MRS22 (Algebra 2/Trigonometry Term
1/2), but have not passed the June Algebra 2/Trigonometry Regents. In addition to the Pre-Calculus curriculum, students will receive
prep for the required January Trigonometry regents.
MRS21 Algebra II & Trigonometry Term 1 – for students who have completed MGS21/MGS22 (Geometry 1/2.) and/or Advanced
Algebra with Financial Applications. This course offers eligible students an additional opportunity to earn an advanced Regents
diploma. This course will satisfy the CUNY requirement for 3 years of Regents level math.
MSS11UQJ Statistical Analysis Term 1 – for students who have completed MM2PHJ (Pre-Calculus) or MRS22(H) (Algebra
2/Trigonometry) and passed the Algebra 2/Trigonometry Regents. Teacher recommendation only.

SPS21H Physics Term 1 Honors – for SCS21H (Chemistry Term 2 Honors) students who have completed SCS21/2 (Chemistry Term
1/ 2) with a 85+ and passed the Chemistry Regents.
SBS21X Advanced Placement Biology – for students who have maintained a 90+ average in Living Environment and Chemistry and
achieved an 85+ on the respective Regents examinations. Students are required to take the College Board Advanced Placement
Examination (test fee required). (single period)
SCS21X Advanced Placement Chemistry - for students who have maintained a 90+ average in Living Environment and Chemistry
and achieved an 85+ on the respective Regents examinations. Students are required to take the College Board Advanced Placement
Examination (test fee required). (double period)
SPS21X Advanced Placement Physics – for students who have maintained a 90+ average in Physics and achieved an 85+ on the
Physics Regents. Students are required to take the College Board Advanced Placement Examination (test fee required). (single period)
SQS21X Advanced Placement Psychology - for students who have maintained a 90+ average. Students are required to take the
College Board Advanced Placement Examination (test fee required).
SFS21 Forensics – for students who have successfully completed SLS21/2 and SES21/2 or SCS21/2, and passed a science Regents.
This course will introduce students to Forensics science.
SWS21 Sports Medicine Term 1 - for students who successfully completed SLS21/SLS22 (Living Environment Term 1/2) and
SES21/SES22 (Earth Science Term 1/2) and passed one Science Regents.
LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH (LOTE)
FSS85 Spanish 5 Term 1 – for students who have passed FSS83/FSS84 (Spanish 3 and 4). June Regents required.
FSS85H Spanish 5 Term 1 Honors – for FSS84H (Spanish 4 Honors) students with a 90+ average. Students who have completed
FSS84 (Spanish 4) with a 90+ average may also take this class. Teacher’s recommendation required. June Regents required.
FTS85 Italian 5 Term 1 – for students who have passed FTS83/FTS84 (Italian 3 and 4). June Regents required.
FTS85H Italian 5 Term 1 Honors – for FTS84H (Italian 4 Honors) students with a 90+ average. Students who have completed
FTS84 (Italian 4) with a 90+ average may also take this class. Teacher’s recommendation required. June Regents required.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
PHS11 Health – For seniors who did not take one semester of health in their junior year.
Physical Education- for all students who are not enrolled in a required health class. All students must be programmed for a physical
education class unless they are a member of a PSAL team.
Fall/Winter Team Gym – For students on a Fall or Winter team and are in good standing. Coach’s recommendation required.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP ELECTIVES
GCS81QQU Council for Unity – this course provides students with the leadership skills necessary to promote unity, civic
responsibility, and safety in our school and community.
GLS21QQ Leadership Class – this course is designed to enhance a student’s natural ability as a leader. The course develops
student’s interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills and provides community service opportunities.
