PURPOSE OF PROGRAM
The mission of Intercollegiate Athletics is to offer students competitive
sports programs that develop skills, abilities, leadership, teamwork,
competitiveness and discipline. Athletics provide preparation for potential
career opportunities in teaching and coaching, and provide a foundation for
lifelong recreational interests and purposeful use of leisure time. The
program adds to student life and is a source of entertainment, camaraderie
and community pride.
The YVCC Student Ambassador mission is to welcome, orient, and support
students through the use of college resources and knowledge of the campus.
The YVCC Ambassador Team is a diverse group of student leaders who
would facilitate campus tours for individuals and groups, in high school and
community outreach events, and assist various campus organizations with
special/annual events.
To provide a diverse range of programs and to enhance leadership skills
with underrepresented students.
The LARC Tutoring Center offers tutorial assistance to YVCC students and
also provides employment for student tutors. Tutorial assistance is provided
for students to supplement instructions in the classrooms and maximize
students learning and academic success while enrolled at YVCC.
The Drama department is dedicated to creating and producing 3-5 main
stage productions a year. The plays are put on for the student body and the
Yakima Valley Community with approximately 7 shows per run. In addition
to the main stage, the group is heavily involved with community outreach in
various forms: creation and presentation of skits for visiting group, artistic
and technical support for other groups, performances at various schools, face
painting, reading projects in elementary school, student supported projects,
student showcases, etc.
The Vocal Music Program provides any YVCC student an opportunity to
sing in an organized vocal music ensemble, the Concert Choir. More
advanced students and music majors may audition for the YVCC Chamber
Singers which is an auditioned ensemble.
To provide leisure time physical and recreational opportunities for students
via use of the gymnasium, fitness center, and weight room.
To provide quality instruction on a wide range of musical topics to a very
diverse student population. We are committed to a student centered
education which emphasizes musical accessibility for all students and
promotes self-esteem through musical performance. By providing both oncampus and off-campus performance opportunities for all our music
students, we seek to instill a dedication to life-long learning and
participating in music.

Jane’s
House-Early
Learning
Center
The mission of Jane’s House Child Care Center is to provide
developmentally appropriate child care. Our goal is to meet the physical,
emotional, intellectual, and social needs of young children. The child care
program is a parent cooperative, which means enrolled children’s parents
participate one hour a week at the child care center and attend one parent
education meeting a month, so we become a vital support to the child and
the family.
