MSc Accounting
(ACCA linked Masters)
The MSC Accounting course is an opportunity to study full time for the Association of Chartered
Certified Accountants qualification and at the same time for a Masters in Accounting.
The ACCA papers studied will be the Professional level papers.
This includes the three core papers:
 Professional Accountant
 Corporate Reporting
 Business Analysis
Students will also study two of the four optional papers:
 Advanced Taxation
 Advanced Audit and Assurance
The papers will be examined by the ACCA in June and December. Students will study for the three
core papers in the first semester and take the examinations in December and for two optional papers
in the second semester, taking the examinations in June.
To achieve a masters degree as well as completing the ACCA examinations, students will also need
to study:
 3 x Masters level modules
 Research Methods
 Dissertation
 PDP
Non ACCA modules
Contemporary Issues in Financial Reporting: This module provides a framework into which
students can place their technical knowledge and to critically appraise both existing accounting
practices and proposals for reform.
Contemporary Issues in Management Accounting: This module develops an appreciation of
current management accounting theory and practice given that much recent theory has tended to
question the value and relevance of conventional management accounting information supplied for
decision making.
Dissertation: This module is provides an opportunity students to undertake an applied research
dissertation. It will build upon previous knowledge, and is underpinned by the Research Methods
module and should be concerned with a practical application of accounting or finance.
Research methods: This module introduces students to a range of investigative methods and
techniques, which will enable them to plan a coherent approach to their final dissertation.

Equivalent or Lower Qualifications (ELQ)
From 2008/09, the government no longer provides funding to support Universities teaching
United Kingdom and European Union students who are studying for an award which is of an
equal or lower level than their existing qualifications. For example, an applicant wishing to
study a degree who already has a degree is regarded as studying for an ELQ and the
University would not receive funding for this student. As a result we have introduced a new set of
fees for students registering from 2010-11 who are studying for an ELQ.
