YPO/WPO 2009 Forums Proposal Overview Listed below are proposed daily itineraries and associated costs for YPO/WPO forum attendees and spouse activities. Following the proposed itineraries are alternative event suggestions for member consideration. Day One-Friday Upon arrival at Albuquerque International Airport, the members will be transported through the beautiful countryside to El Monte Sagrado Living Resort & Spa in the historic town of Taos. (Private aircraft can land directly at Taos Airport.) Arriving at this sanctuary, the members will check-in to their Native American Suites. Our 18 Native American Suites have been aptly named for Native American figures throughout history. Private bedroom with King-size bed. Kiva-style fireplaces, stone tiles, and a living area with a queen-size sofa bed create a sense of charm, while your private balcony or patio offers serene views of the Sacred Circle’s lush green space and waterways. One bedroom & one bath King size bed Private patio/balcony View of Sacred Circle & ponds Magnificent bathroom Kiva-style fireplace Living area The moderator will be upgraded to a Global Suite which has two bedrooms with a King Size bed and two complete baths. The ample living space in each globally themed suite will accommodate the 10-12 members. Each Global Suite also has a private patio and hot tub. Depending on the group’s schedule, members will have the time to explore the property and relax in the Spa or Biolarium with its enclosed pool, work-out in our 24-hour fitness center or play a game of pool in our Library on a table once played on by Minnesota Fats. Hiking Tours with a Guide – John Duncan, the head guide, is a licensed Wilderness Medical Technician and Instructor at the University of New Mexico in Wildness Skills. Lunch is provided for full day hikers. Half Day Hikes: $100 1st person, $20 additional. Full day $150.00 and $25 each additional person. He can provide most supplies but guests need their own hiking shoes. Llama Trekking – Offers guided pack trips with gourmet lunch day hikes and custom wilderness experiences in the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Taos and Santa Fe. $99 per person/half-day. Fly Fishing - Full Day and Half Day 1 Person $295 full day: $225 half day 2 People $234 full day; $250 half day. A fishing license is required $22 for one day of fishing; $34 for up to 5 days. 50% Deposit required to book a trip refundable if 7 day notices. Will take beginners. Downhill Skiing/Snowmobiling – Taos Ski Valley offers amazing terrain to enjoy whether you are on a snowmobile or on skis. Ski Tickets $60pp/per day. Equipment can be rented at the base of the mountain for $55pp/per day with free overnight storage. For The History Buff Taos Pueblo – Located two miles north of the Taos Plaza. The Pueblo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been continuously inhabited for more than 1,000 years. The cost is $15 for admission a tour of the Pueblo is complimentary. Rio Grande Gorge – The Bridge towers 650 feet above the river. This is a photographers dream with spectacular views everywhere. Cost = Free San Francisco De Asis Church – This is the most photographed and painted churches in the Southwest. Cost = Free Mable Dodge Luhan House – Mabel Dodge Luhan was already a prominent figure in the arts and society of NY and parts of Europe by the time she arrived in Taos. She came from a wealthy Buffalo NY family and was the subject of much talk a gossip in the east when she chose to move to the Wild West. Actor Dennis Hopper owned the house for a few years in the 1970’s. Gallery Tour – Tour the wonderful Galleries of Taos with an experienced guide which will provide you with all you need to know to get that perfect piece of art. Tour lasts ½ the day and cost is $250 for approx 7 attendees. Team Building Activities- Prices upon request Fishing Tourney Beautiful mountain scenery, clean cold trout water, bright blue sky, a well-placed fly……… Private spring fed lakes and streams of the region produce nice catches of trophy rainbow trout to anglers practicing their new fly-fishing skills. Your group will be split into teams of experienced and novice anglers where they will then have to work together to get each anger in the group to catch their trophy rainbow trout. Our instructors are the best in the west in teaching all aspects of flyfishing that every person in your group can participate in. Sporting clays shoot out There is nothing like the experience and powerful feeling after hitting your first clay target with a 20 or 12 gauge shot gun. Our guides have the expertise to instruct safe firearm handling skills, theory in hitting the air born target and then teaching how to shoulder and swing a gun onto target to produce results. Teams are assigned and members have to assist and coach other team members to succeed for the team score. The sporting clays course takes individuals out of their normal environment and comfort zone and introduces a new skill that they will never forget and be able to share with their teammates for a long time. Golf Tourney Taos Country Club is a very nice links style course back dropped by the Sangre de Cristo and the Rio Grande Gorge. Teams are assigned and started shotgun style with best score records. Fishing Tourney and Sporting Clays Shootout and/ or Golf Tourney make a really fun Combo tourney with two separate skill sets for a team tournament format. Tipi Building The Comanche once visited Taos to trade in the Rio Grande valley and left the knowledge of their lodge – the tipi- and all that it stood for. Your tribe will be broken down into clans specializing in engineering and setting up a tipi, traditional decoration of the lodge expressing clan preferences and the providers that will prepare native fare to nourish the hard working tribal group. Taos Ski Valley NASTAR ski race or ski experience day Deep powder snow and bright blue sunshine filled skies are what Taos is all about. Your group can learn to work together instructing each other and then competing directly with other group ski teams on the NASTAR racecourse for an official score. Rio Grande Gorge Art Contest The Taos gorge provides an awesome subject, paints, pencils, charcoal, brushes and pallets combined with your small group inspirations and talents instructed by our local art instructor provide the finished products to be judged at dinner by a local art expert. Taos or Northern New Mexico Historical and Natural Science Fact Finding Mission Historical, cultural and natural science fact-finding mission that will challenge any group of thinkers. Why come all the way to New Mexico without understanding all the facts of the region? We run this activity on foot walking from the hotel down on to the historic plaza area or from vehicles driven by SFGC guides or company staff out in to the surrounding northern New Mexico region. The historical, cultural and natural science fact finding mission really gives your participants the opportunity to get out and explore and experience what Taos and New Mexico have to offer. Ropes Course Challenge Our ropes course is a multi-dimensional, experience-based tool utilized for teambuilding and personal growth opportunities for your participants. The Challenge Course Experience is designed to be a safe, challenging, rewarding and fun experience for all participants regardless of their physical or mental abilities. The activities/elements are found in a maze of poles, ropes, and cables and require a group to work together to solve problems, help each other overcome perceived limits and produce a sense of exhilaration and accomplishment. While the elements are often thought of as being “physical” any person willing to participate can do so through the cooperative efforts of the group. Typically, elements/activities last between 15 to 60 minutes in length and are followed by a discussion/reflection period to allow participants an opportunity to stop the action and reflect on the skills and lessons learned by doing the activity. Paintball War Paint Ball is very popular with adventure and competitive minded groups. Our Team oriented scenarios are created to bring together cooperation through communication and planning skills followed by execution if a team wants to win. Each team will compete directly in this competition of wit and strategy while taking cover in the wild and natural surroundings of the Rocky Mountains. The teams will take turns being the aggressor or defender of the flag and have several opportunities to get their attack and defense strategies right. Each participant will be equipped with the latest weapons with plenty of ammo, protective safety gear and cover clothing. Rio Grande White Water Rafting With spring and midsummer snowmelts, the Rio produces class III and IV rapids that will challenge any group of adventure seekers. Each boat has a captain (guide) that instructs his crew how to steer and negotiate the rapids under his control forming the perfect team. Working together is a must to avoid obstacles and a cold dousing in the Rio and always brings together a close-knit team brought together by the new experiences and adventure.
