It aims to provide the essential concepts and background on industrial automation, machine vision and their applications, as well as their integration into a complete manufacturing system. The first part, Industrial Automation, covers the basics of the main components of an automatic system, which includes the various types of motors, servo systems, sensors and programming techniques. The second part, Machine Vision, introduces the basic principles of machine vision systems, including some methodologies and techniques commonly used in industry. This subject introduces various concepts involved in the study of circuits and control systems. It covers theories/practical knowledge of transient and steady state response of first and second order circuits, the structure of feedback control systems, stability analysis using Routh Hurwitz criterion, Root Locus plot and Bode plots. The controllers and compensator design techniques used in control systems are also discussed in this subject. This subject introduces the fundamentals of instrumentation and process control. It covers mainly on different measuring devices, final control elements, controller principles, single and multiple loop control systems and process documentation. Basic programming skills in process simulation and real time control are covered. Digital control system is also discussed and significance of Shannon’s sampling theorem and signal reconstruction are explained. Finally the role of computers in process control is sufficiently emphasized ROBOTICS CLUSTER ELECTIVES Year 3 1. Analytical Robotics ECT3002/ ANAR 4/3 2 (Lec) 2 (Tut/Lab alternate week) This subject introduces various concepts involved in the study of robotic systems. It begins with an introduction to the different types of robotic systems, mechanical forces and the Law of motion, different types of actuators, various types of sensors and their application in robotics. Basic kinematics is also discussed to analyze the pose and orientation of the object in space. Various mobile robot design considerations and embedded system design are explored to emphasise the application aspects. 2. Data Acquisition Systems EMC3004/ DASYS 4/3 1 (Lec) 3 (Lab) The subject covers signal conditioning techniques required to acquire accurate measurements, virtual instrumentation and measurement concepts and techniques, transducers and data acquisition, and presentation. 3. Robotic Control Systems ECT3003/ RTCS 4/3 2 (Lec) 2 (Tut/Lab alternate week) This subject introduces various concepts involved in the study of discrete robotic systems. It covers theories and examples of sampling theory, zero hold circuit, ztransform, steady state errors, Root Locus Plot, stability and state space analysis. Both the direct and indirect methods used in digital controllers design are also covered in lab and assignment. Cluster Electives Offered by Diploma in Mechatronics (MTN)
