Job Title: Match Corps: Boston
Company: Match Education
Job Type: Full Time, Internship
Degrees Wanted: Bachelors
Majors Wanted: Any Major
Location: Massachusetts
Salary: Living stipend, free housing
Job Description: Are you looking for an opportunity to serve in inner-city schools? Do you want a
great gap-year before law school, medical school, or grad school, or before going into a career
in the non-profit sector? Match Corps: Boston is a one-year, full-time residential fellowship
program. It pairs Corps members with 6-7 students at Match High School, Match Middle School,
or Match Community Day Elementary School. Corps members run small group or 1-on-1
tutorials, working to guarantee the academic success of Match students while building personal
relationships with the students and their parents. They also serve as either Teaching Assistants
to our outstanding classroom teachers or Administrative Assistants in one of the school
departments. This full-time service year program is designed to fully close the academic
achievement gap between minority students and their non-minority peers, one student at a time.
Match Corps: Boston allows idealistic and dedicated young people to invest their time and
energy in just a few students' academic progress. Match Corps is not necessarily looking for the
future teachers of America. We want future doctors, lawyers, MBAs, architects; we want majors
from math, political science, literature, economics, engineering - anyone willing to work tirelessly
for one year to erase the achievement gap. Corps members who know they want to teach for at
least two years in an urban charter school should opt in to Match Teacher Residency. Match
Teacher Residency is our in-house, optional teacher training program. In MTR, Boston Corps
members receive additional training on the weekends with the aim of becoming unusually
effective first year teachers in high-poverty schools. Graduates of MTR go on to teach at some
of the most highly regarded charter schools in the country and consistently outperform other
first- and second-year teachers in the classroom. For more information about MTR, visit the
website here: http://www.matcheducation.org/join-us/match-teacher-residency-boston Match
4
Corps: Boston is distinct from its sister program, Match Corps: Lawrence, in two key ways: 1)
Boston Corps members tutor math and English, while Lawrence fellows only tutor 9th and 10th
grade math, and 2) the Boston Corps serves in Match Charter Public Schools in Boston,
whereas Lawrence fellows serve in two public district high schools in Lawrence, MA. To learn
more about Match Corps: Lawrence, visit the website here: http://www.matcheducation.org/joinus/match-corps-lawrence For more information about the Boston Corps, check out these

Job Title: Match Teacher Residency
Company: Match Education
Job Type: Full Time, Internship
Degrees Wanted: Bachelors
Majors Wanted: Any Major
Location: Massachusetts
Salary: Living stipend, free housing
Job Description: Do you want to be an unusually effective first year teacher in a high-poverty
charter school? If so, you should consider Match Teacher Residency, a highly innovative, oneyear teacher training program. Basically, we give college graduates one year of incredibly
intense training designed to make them unusually effective rookie teachers. We then help them
find teaching positions in high-need schools, and continue to support them as they begin their
careers in the classroom. What sets MTR apart from other teacher prep programs? 1) We are
prescriptive, like a sports coach or piano teacher. Members of MTR learn and practice very
specific "Teacher Moves." 2) Trainees are specifically being prepared to teach in charter
schools that have a track record of "turning around" low-performing kids. 3) We have a very
particular approach, which involves building relationships one-on-one with kids and parents,
then leveraging those relationships to run a tight ship in class, enforce rules consistently, and
maintain high expectations of students. MTR is no different from Match Corps: Boston, our fulltime tutoring fellowship, from Monday-Thursday. However, unlike regular Corps members,
MTRs want to go on to become full-time teachers in high-need, "No Excuses" charter schools.
On Fridays and Saturdays, MTRs learn about the nuts and bolts of teaching, experience hours
of hands-on practice, and receive in-depth coaching. Student teaching takes place on Fridays
and Saturdays, as well; the whole program is designed so that it doesn't interfere with the
primary responsibility of tutoring your students. MTRs also pursue a Masters of Effective
Teaching Degree from our sister institution, the Charles Sposato Graduate School of Education.
For more information on the new Masters degree component of MTR, have a look at our
website: http://www.matcheducation.org/match-teacher-residency/sposato-graduate-schooleducation. As mentioned above, Match Teacher Residents also serve in Match Corps: Boston,
our one-of-a-kind yearlong tutoring fellowship. The Match Corps program began in 2004 and is
5
the first of its kind in the nation. The Corps is a group of top recent college graduates who work
one-on-one with 6-8 Match High School, Middle School or Match Community Day Elementary
School students each day for an entire academic year. All three schools are open-admission
charter public schools in Boston, MA. This full-time service year program is designed to fully
close the academic achievement gap between minority students and their non-minority peers,
one student at a time. For more information about Match Teacher Residency, check out these

Degrees Wanted: Bachelors, Doctorate, Masters
Majors Wanted: Any Major
Location: Massachusetts
Salary: Living stipend
Job Description: Are you interested in education reform? Do you want to help close the
achievement gap in public schools? Consider joining Match Corps: Lawrence, a full-time, inschool, professional math tutoring fellowship. We are seeking smart, idealistic, relentless people
for our 2013-2014 cohort of tutors. Match Corps: Lawrence follows the high-dosage tutoring
model that Match Charter Public Schools have used in Boston since 2004. Each Fellow works
with two students at a time for each period of the school day, and will have a personal caseload
of 12 students for the entire school year. Fellows will play a significant role in transforming two
chronically failing high schools in Lawrence. They will also drive student achievement by
providing individualized instruction, and will build personal and meaningful relationships with
students and their families during this year of service. Match Corps: Lawrence is an elite
program. In previous years, we have received more than 20 applicants for every position and
only select from the top 10%. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree, and although Fellows
must have strong 9th and 10th grade math skills, we accept applicants from all majors. The
program is open to any adult who is willing to commit to a full-time service year. Ideal
candidates include recent college graduates, mid-career individuals, and retirees. In considering
applications, we primarily look for a strong academic record, coaching or tutoring experience,
and a readiness to rise to the many demands and challenges that develop from working with atrisk youth. We need idealistic and driven people who are hungry for consistent feedback, and
who will commit to working tirelessly for one year to erase, not narrow, the achievement gap.
