Portfolio Assignment

Due – June 6, 2014

A portfolio is a collection of purposefully selected items that you will gather during this course to illustrate your skills, values, abilities, and interests. These items will reflect the experiences you will have both in and out of school. Because you’re academic, personal management and teamwork skills will be developed during your experiences, you can use these selected items as tangible reminders and evidence as you plan your career path. It will enable you to keep track of what you do well and to identify areas that need strengthening.

Steps to creating your portfolio:

Cover Page: name, date, placement a) Table of Contents b) Exit Cover Letter, Exit Resume (email a copy to your teacher)

Update and revisit resume and cover letter from beginning of semester

(re-type your cover letter to your existing employer, showing your new experiences from the placement.) c) Employability Skills

List the skills that you have developed up to date (see handout #1 attached)

(very bottom of assignment) d) Volunteer Experience: (small photos(if possible), personal reflection, dates, location

Use paragraph form - for each volunteer experience e) Certificates and Awards (actual copies or photocopies, badges etc)

Examples : Coop certifications, Babysitting certificate, CPR, First-Aid, Swimming

Certificates, Passport to Safety, WHMIS etc…. f) Personal Goals and Achievements: (photographs, brochures, ticket stubs, etc)

List all school and non-school related activities in the last three years

*If in doubt about this section, simply write a short paragraph including the 5W’s about the interest g) Two Letters of Recommendation i) one from your co-op supervisor ii) one from an adult who knows you well (not a relative)

You will be presenting your portfolio during your exit interview

Formatting

Use 12pt size

Use consistent font throughout all of your portfolio

Single space all text

Bold titles / headings

Include borders on table of content and title pages

Use spell check, grammar check and formal style writing (no short forms, slang etc)

Have someone proof read your portfolio

A portfolio is a professional presentation of you! Keep it professional!
