Course Overview Special phases of partnership accounting, joint ventures, consignments, installment sales, statement of affairs for insolvent concerns, and business combinations. The prerequisite for the course is ACC 401 or concurrent enrollment. 2. Objectives of Course Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to: 1) know how to analyze and record creation of partnerships, distribution of partnership income, and liquidation of partnerships 2) know how to account for foreign currency translation, hedge accounting and international accounting principles 3) know the proper accounting procedures for consignments 4) know proper procedures for segment reporting 5) know the rules and the accounting procedures for filing bankruptcy 6) know how to apply the cost, equity, and partial equity methods of accounting for investments 7) know how to prepare consolidated financial statements 3. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer. 4. Method of Evaluation Your semester grade will be based on exams, homework, and quizzes. Your semester grade will be determined by your weighted average earned points on the following: Exam 1 Exam 2 Exam 3 Final examination (comprehensive) Quizzes Total 100 100 100 150 50 500 Exams (100 points each for a total of 300 points) Three examinations will be given during the semester. Each examination will be composed of problems, short answer, and objective questions. No make-up exams will be given. If an exam is missed for an excused reason, the percentage earned on comprehensive final exam will be multiplied by 100 points and this score will be substituted for the missed exam. This grade replacement may only be used for one missed exam. Final Exam (150 points) The final exam will be composed of problems, short answer, and objective questions. By department policy the final exam will be comprehensive. The comprehensive portion of the final examination will consist of 25 multiple choice questions worth 2 points each. Quizzes (50 points) A quiz will be given at the beginning of each chapter. Each quiz will be worth 5 points. The scores for the best 10 quizzes will count towards the course grade. 5. Grading Criteria We will be using a point system as follows: 450 – 500 points 400 – 449 points 350 – 399 points 300 – 349 points below 300 points = “A” = “B” = “C” = “D” = “F” 6. Semester Schedule (See below) 7. Drop Policy If you discover that you need to drop this class, you must go to the Records Office and ask for the necessary paperwork. Professors cannot drop students; this is always the responsibility of the student. The record’s office will give a deadline for which the form must be returned, completed and signed. Once you return the signed form to the records office and wait 24 hours, you must go into Duck Trax and confirm that you are no longer enrolled. If you are still enrolled, FOLLOW-UP with the records office immediately. You are to attend class until the procedure is complete to avoid penalty for absence. Should you miss the deadline or fail to follow the procedure, you will receive an F in the course. 8. Academic Integrity Texas A&M University - Central Texas expects all students to maintain high standards of personal and scholarly conduct. Students found responsible of academic dishonesty are subject to disciplinary action. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, cheating on an examination or other academic work, plagiarism, collusion, and the abuse of resource materials.
