PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA PE OPTIONS This course will focus on different physical activities, the ability to work together to achieve a common goal, and the improvement of our students’ fitness levels. Activities will include, but are not limited to the following: Soccer, Softball/Wiffle ball, Flag Football, Ultimate Frisbee, Capture-the-Flag, Speedball, Basketball, Engleball, Badminton (doubles), KanJam, and Volleyball. Optional Activities May Include: Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, Fitness Center, Weight Room, Dance, Stability Ball, Aerobics, and Nike Fit. CLASS EXPECTATIONS 1. BE PREPARED FOR CLASS- (P.E. clothes are a change of clothes; not what you wore to school!) Limited extra clothing is available in the P.E. office in the locker room. Non-dresser’s will still participate and only be awarded half of the possible points for the day. 1st Offense: Warning 2nd Offense: Phone call/E-mail to parent 3rd Offense and beyond: Tutorial after school. Failure to attend will result in a referral to administration. 2. LEAVE ALL VALUABLES IN THE INSTRUCTORS OFFICE or have a lock. Please give your instructor the combination to your lock or an extra key. 3. ABSOLUTELY NO TOBACCO PRODUCTS!! TOBACCO POLICY (see student handbook for explanation) 4. Dress Code Policy- See student handbook *Dress appropriately for the weather. A. All shirts must have a sleeve that is 4 fingers in width. No undergarments should be seen. B. No inappropriate language, pictures, or messages on shirts. C. Shorts, wind pants, sweatpants are acceptable. D. Tennis shoes are required. No dress shoes or boots on gym floor. E. All body piercing must be taped, bandaged, or removed. *** Any VISIBLE, NEW piercings must be taped. NO EXCEPTIONS! 9. Towels are recommended but not required; showers are not required, but encouraged. 10. Absolutely no food or gum in the gym at any time. 11. Take your P.E. clothes home to be washed. 12. Report any injuries to the Phys. Ed. Instructor(s) immediately. 13. EXCUSES A. A signed note from a licensed physician or the school nurse is the only acceptable excuse. B. Notes from parents are not acceptable, and points will be deducted from your grade. C. Excuses for non-participation for more than two weeks are to be given to the nurse and you must see your Guidance Counselor and Mr. Minarchick to be assigned to Adaptive P.E. 14. Students will not be permitted to visit other classes or guidance during P.E. You must have a pass in order to be permitted to visit any other area in the school. The goal in PE Options is not to make every student an athlete. We believe that all students can benefit from a sound physical education program that will promote lifetime physical fitness and health. Goals: 1. 2. 3. 4. Development of the “Team” concept PE OPTIONS GRADING Students will earn their grade in PE Options based on their performance in the following three categories: 1. Daily Grade (6 points per day) The daily grade will be based on the following: - Following class rules as listed. 1 – 5 points deducted depending on the infraction. - Dress appropriately. 3 points will be deducted for not dressing out. - Participation. 3 points will be deducted for not participating. - Non-participation: 2nd Offense – Warning, Phone call/e-mail to parent 3rd Offense and beyond- 30 minutes after school tutorial with PE Instructor. Failure to attend will result in a referral to administration. 2. Skills Assessment (Points will vary on rubric) We will have skills testing in PE for every unit. This grade is NOT based on how well a student can perform a specific skill. This grade is based on whether or not a student has demonstrated a basic knowledge of the skill. (All skills will be demonstrated and practiced prior to any formal evaluation.) ***Academic Integrity (Cheating) Refer to the student handbook for the Academic Integrity policy. Absences/Late Work Policy PE Options is a participation class. Points will be deducted for each absence, however, those points may be made up by making up the class during a study hall or after school. Any written work, skills tests, or written tests may be made up prior to the completion of the marking period. As per P-O School Board policy, a student may miss 15 classes for a ½ year course. Parents will be notified when absences reach the number 4. 4th Absence: Phone call/E-mail to parent 5th Absence: Phone call/written notice to parent 6th Absence: Phone call/Conference request **If you would like to make-up a class outside of school, please see one of the Phys.
