Research Experiences
Graduate Student with Brian McGlynn, Duke University
2012 – present
 Investigating how seasonal and spatial variation in hillslope connectivity impacts stream nutrient
kinetics and stream metabolism in Rocky Mountain headwater streams.
Fulbright Researcher, University of Tromsø
2011-2012
 Conducted research on the structure and function of methanotrophic communities over a successional
gradient of thermokarst erosion in oligotrophic peatlands.
Student Researcher, The Polaris Project
2009-2010
 Investigated the relationship between transient storage and nutrient uptake in headwater streams
underlain by continuous permafrost in eastern Siberia.
Student Researcher, St. Olaf College
2008-2011
 Conducted research on the severity of edge effects and subsequent decline in biodiversity in tropical
evergreen montane forests (international research in association with Palni Hills Conservation
Council).
 Studied the effect of snowpack on soil microbial activity and wintertime biogeochemical cycling in
restored tall grass prairies.
REU student research, Arizona State University
2008
 Explored the effects of nitrogen deposition on sediment microbial communities in alpine lakes.
