The Joseph Allen Mill Murals
Retired British Army Officer Capt. Joseph Allen and his family, fleeing New Jersey as United Empire Loyalists built
the historic mill in 1795. The water wheel powered mill remained in operation until 1932 and stands facing south onto
the great lake of Ontario near Wapoose in Prince Edward County.
Brian Blackstock formulated the idea of commissioning a group of paintings to custom fit between the beams on the
inside west wall of the Joseph Allen Mill that is now his summer home.

Each of the four paintings a narrative of the grist mill in operation and some of the people and history of so many
centuries.
Brian Blackstock’s aunt Peg Blackstock and two co-owners Mrs, K. Miller and Judith Robinson bought the mill and began the
restoration of the Joseph Allen mill in 1952.
