Assignment Three:
Using existing lighting (overhead, streetlight, candles, painter lights, ect.) shoot color
photographic images (RAW and/or on the highest quality resolution, using a variety of
white balance settings) these images will be your interpretation of how color and light in
photography can be used to not only describe the colors of objects and details of content,
but also suggest the possibilities of a psychological, emotional and/or symbolic context.
In contemplating and experiencing color as a visual strategy to reveal the possibilities of
psychological, emotional and/or symbolic meaning, such conceptual possibilities could
include the emotional sensations of the landscape and/or within the metaphorical context
of a person and/or societal state of mind.

How is it appropriate to and enhanced by your camera angle?
How does changing the white balance in the camera effect the image?
How are the 5 images tied together?
Due on a CD and in the class folder:
1. 5 final images (As a PDF book) that are at least 8 x 10 (300 DPI), unless you have a
conceptual or thematic reason to go with another size.
2. These images should be sized to fit the document size.
3. Contact sheets. At least 30 images, Please remember to bracket. (The brackets do
not need to be on the contact sheets)
4. Use the spot meter and measure shadow, highlight and mid tone, bracket
5. CD or DVD with all the images including the brackets
6. Remember to shoot in Raw and check your white balance.

Remember to:

Reflect the light: (mat board, white paper, foam core),
Create home made snoots: (paper towel rolls, cut outs in boards)
Bounce the light with attention to color and white light balance:
Diffuse the light (rice paper, tissue paper ect.)
