Fairley sold four pieces to Chinese collectors including a late 19 th century hardwood

Japanese vase for about €40,000.

“What has been interesting today is that we have had mainland Chinese collectors and they bought mid-priced range Japanese pieces,” said Fairley. “They are beginning to realize that there are some extraordinary Japanese works of art. It is our first TEFAF and we are very pleased. We had no idea that it was going to be so good.”

The gallery explains this by the very successful exhibition Clive Head had last fall in the

National Gallery in London and the catalogue raisonné that was published in that same period.

Benzoni. They did not buy it at the fair but regretted that so much that they called 15 minutes before opening time the next day to wanted to buy it anyway. The asking price was € 400.000
