What we’ve been doing this term...
Revlolting Romans
In our history lessons, we have been studying all things Roman. We have
learnt about the Roman empire and their soldiers. Year 3 became
investigators, researching the roles of women, children, men as well as the
social classes. The children have also been lucky enough to begin studying
Roman artefacts and producing artwork, including these fantastic designs
for shields, roman helmets and coins.
How You
Can Help:

Please can you
listen to your
child read at
home as often as
possible. It makes
a huge difference
to progress if you
can try to ask
them questions
about the book,
to check their
understanding.

Year 3 have PE on
Tuesdays please can everyone remember to
have their PE kits
with them every
week.

Please help your
children to learn
their number
bonds - pairs of
numbers that add
up to 5, 10 or 20.
Year 3 Swimming
This term, Year 3 have begun taking swimming lessons at Stevenage Indoor
Pool. Every Monday we head down to the pool by coach, change into our
swimming costumes and our taught how to improve our swimming by our
expert instructors. We’re already making fantastic progress, and are
enjoying making a splash!

Performance Poetry
Year 3 started off Literacy
this year by learning about
Performance Poetry. We began by reading and presenting
poems by a range of famous
poets - in these pictures, you
can see groups from Class 6
using expression, rhythm,
props and drama to bring
their poems to life.

We then wrote our own performance poems, inspired by a poem by Roger
McGough called ‘The Sound Collector’. We used his poem as a model, adapting
it and adding our own ideas words and ideas, to produce poems about The
Noise Collector, The Colour Collector, The Feeling Collector and The Touch
Collector, some of which you can read below:
The Feeling Collector,
by Jake Lambert
The Colour Collector,
by Terri Free
The love of a baby hugging his mum
The jealousy of an angry man’s eyes
The sadness of an abandoned child
The hate of a terrifying villain
The glitter of the golden sun
The sizzling blue sky
The rainbow screeching with sparkles
The colours popping into a rainbow
The happiness of a child
The cuteness of a hamster
The unrestlessness of a sleep
The coldness of snow
The murmuring of the rainbows
The whooshing red and purple
When the rainbow in the yellow sun
The gorgeous green and colour blue
The kindness of praise
The loneliness of a cat
The anger of a lion
The happiness of friendship
The growling colour gold
The fluttering flashing yellow
The bright gold ring on a ladies finger
The dripping and darkness of the red
The grave of a loss
The dislike of a sister
The nervousness of an actor
That’s never been on stage before
A stranger called this morning
He didn’t leave his name
He left us only with grey
Life will never be the same

Under the Sea Setting Descriptions
Excitedly I pulled on my flippers on! I dived into the deep ocean. I could feel
the slippery, slimy seaweed between my toes. I dived deeper then I discovered a ship wreck. Suddenly I noticed what seemed like a shark. It was lying
on the floor of the ship and it looked dead. Timidly I tried to pick up a flapping fish. I realised it was escaping from the shark! Quickly I swam away and
back to the seashore. Finally I found my boat...
Alfie Tongue (C5)
Cheerfully I dived into the beautiful ocean. I was really happy because an
amazing fish swam by and I saw coral. Suddenly I saw a clownfish it was marvellous! At that moment a jellyfish dashed past me. Next I carefully touched
some coral but it cut me. There was sand at the bottom of the beautiful
Great Barrier Reef.

Getting to know you week
During the first week of term,
Year 3 took part in a wide range
of activities to get to know one
another and their new teachers.
We started work on our Romans
topic, wrote letters to our
teachers about what we did during the summer holidays, and
started investigating our new
science topic.

We also produced some fantastic artwork, showing our
teachers just how talented
and careful we are. Here you
can see brilliant pictures by
Morgan Lamb and Kaci-Leigh
Moulton, who drew the right
-hand side of their faces, to
complete their photographic
self-portraits.
