A Message from the Principals
As we rapidly approach the end of this term, Semester 1 Reports are being completed and checked by
teachers. The reports will be available for collection by a parent / guardian after the End of Term Assembly
next Friday 5th July from the classroom teacher. I urge parents to read them carefully and discuss them with
their children. If you have any queries or concerns once you have read the reports, please contact your
teacher.
Our representative sporting teams had a busy week last week, with the interschool Rugby Carnival on
Tuesday and the Eagles Cup fixtures against Rossmoyne at Riverton on Friday. Congratulations to the
students who competed enthusiastically in these events, representing the school with skills and pride. Thank
you to those teachers who organised and prepared teams for the games and thanks to the parents who were
able to come along and support the students.
With the arrival of the wet weather, parents are asked to take extra care when arriving in cars to drop children
at school, as well as when parking and picking up students at the end of the day. The safety of our students is
paramount and we all need to follow the road rules and take extra care around the school site during these
busy times. The little gate at the front of the school will be unlocked, so that students and parents can enter
via the gate and not the car park. There have been several students entering the school via the car park.
Parents are reminded that it is a staff car park, and by dropping your children there you are placing them at
risk. Please walk around to the main entrance or the little gate, thank you.
It is with sadness that I announce that one of our longest serving teachers, Mr Kevin Marshall is retiring and
leaving at the end of the Term. Mr Marshall has obviously taught a huge number of Riverton students in his
30 years at this school and has been heavily involved in a huge number and variety of events over the years.
His dedication and energy has been a real asset to our school, and his tireless efforts both inside and outside
the classroom each day over a number of years are to be applauded. Mr Marshall’s technical skills have been
used to support all our events, including the operation of lighting, sound systems and filming of important
whole school events such as carnivals, assemblies and productions. We thank Mr Marshall for all his efforts,
wish him all the best and assure him that we will miss him greatly.

English as an Additional Language
The EAL Parent Group exists to connect parents with each other
in a friendly and casual environment, whilst providing an
opportunity to socialise, participate in good conversation and
learn from others in the group.
Well done to Ivy for demonstrating how to make a very
easy pear dessert last week!
Tomorrow, 26 June, Magdalene will be leading us in a
cooking session, teaching us how to make something
Malaysian.
Attending the EAL Parent Group is a great way to
meet new people and get connected into the Riverton
PS community. We will be very happy to answer any
questions that you may have regarding your child’s
education.
The meeting will commence at 9am and conclude at
approximately 10am. Coffee and tea will be available.
The Parent Group is held in the EAL office in Room
23, located at the back of the Staff Room. Please enter
through the glass door on the east side of the building,
near the Undercover Area (look for the orange ‘EAL
Office’ sign). We hope to see you soon.
If you have young children who are not yet at school,
they are very welcome to come along. If you would like
to bring a friend to the group, you are also welcome to
do
so.

Soccer
The Riverton team combined well to draw with
Rossmoyne 2 all on Friday’s Eagles Cup match. They
started to work as a team and lead by some great
defensive play, scored the opening goal.
With
seconds remaining and Rossmoyne 2 to 1 up a
penalty infringement enabled Lee to score the
equalizer. Good players for Riverton were Lee, Alex,
Rayhan, Aqeel and Shaun.
Super Coach
Eagles Cup vs Shelley
Friday 29th June Riverton will be competing against
Shelley in Soccer, Football, Netball A & B and Hockey.
Soccer, Hockey and Netball to be played at Shelley
Primary. Football to be played at Shelley Reserve.
Permission notes must be completed for students to
attend. Spectators more than welcome.
Sport News
Rugby Carnival
We had an excellent day last Tuesday with our three
teams all performing well. All teams won games and
there were some excellent tries made. Our A Team
finished equal second on points with Rossmoyne but
were relegated to third place because Rossmoyne
defeated us in our game against them. The score was
2 all and they made a try just moments before the final
whistle. With the top two teams being invited to the
State Championships we were denied of this
opportunity by just a few seconds. Overall a fine effort
though.
Eagles Cup Fixture
Riverton V’s Rossmoyne
Football
Riverton 15
Rossmoyne 65
We put in our best effort so far, we were even leading
at quarter time. Eventually Rossmoyne over ran us
and proved too strong but we never stopped trying.
Chris Darmago proved to be a real tiger in defence
with his second and third efforts outstanding. Tom
Wiltshire played well with a sore leg and Eve Miller
showed her usual courage and determination.
Thomas Hardy was lively, Jack Evans showed that he
will be a star of the future and Jesse Olszewski was
hard working and reliable.
John – Coach
Netball
Last Friday 21st June both netball teams participated in
Eagles Cup against Rossmoyne Primary.
The
Stingers won their game by a margin of seven goals.
Both teams played well and the scores were quite
close throughout the whole game but eventually the
Stingers got a big enough lead to win the game.
The Force also won their game by a margin of ten
goals. They took the lead early on and were able to
keep it until the final whistle was blown.
The girls have one more game this Friday against
Shelley Primary until the Winter Carnival in the final
week of school.
Big thanks to Miss Dimasi for taking over the role of
the coach while Miss Nan was away.
Jessica McCracken
Winter Carnival
Next Tuesday our Term 2 sport program culminates in
an all day Carnival. The sport and venues are as
follows;
Football and Netball A & B will play at Burrendah
Reserve, opposite Southlands Shopping Centre,
Burrendah Boulevard, Willetton.
Soccer will be played at Willetton Park, cnr Apsley Ave
and Malindi St, Willetton
Hockey will be played at Trevor Gribble Reserve, cnr
Karel and Parry Aves.
The games will begin at around 9.30. Best of luck to
all our teams. Spectators are welcome.
After School Sport Program
This is our final week for the term with the last session
being this Thursday 27th June. We have had a lot of
fun this term throwing boomerangs and playing
floorball.
Once again thank you to the canteen for providing us
with the wonderful afternoon teas. We really look
forward to them. It is like having a party every
Tuesday and Thursday afternoon followed by some
games.

Vegi Garden News
The vegetable garden was looking absolutely fantastic.
Unfortunately some very stupid people came in over
the weekend and pulled out all the vegetables, which
is such a waste. I will purchase some more seedlings,
but will not purchase and plant them until term 3, so
that there is no opportunity for them to be pulled out
during the holidays.
Luckily we picked the cumquats last Friday and made
some cumquat jam. Thank you to Natalie McAuliffe for
donating some of her cumquats. We have been
selling the produce to the staff and to parents at the
assemblies on Friday mornings. Don’t forget to
purchase your worm wee for $1.00 it is wonderful for
your garden.

President Vacancy
My sincere gratitude to the many Parents and
Teachers for the generous words and messages of
well wishes received over the last couple of weeks.
The support the P&C has received so far this year has
been overwhelming. Support from families who have
paid the voluntary contribution fees or have donated
their valuable time helping in the canteen or uniform
shop. Support by buying lunches at the canteen or
raffle tickets. Support from families who have
volunteered to help with events or be on committees.
Thanks to everyone.
Thank you to the School Administration Officers
Karen, Lei and Dale for your time and knowledge
given on many occasions while helping me with P & C
matters. Your work does not go unnoticed and is
much appreciated.
A P & C meeting will be held @ 7.15 this evening in
the Staff Room where a new P & C president will be
voted on.

Thanks to our great volunteers again. It has been as
usual a very busy week.
Please come and put your names down to volunteer
for the final days of the school term.
Make sure you have your orders in for the end of term
