Technical Illustrator / Draughtsman

SCOPE:
This person is responsible for the accurate and timely delivery of VLS LTD vehicle livery designs from template to conversion into
digital format ready for cutting. Under initial guidance, they will maintain and update the vehicle library with drafting/cutting data and
take ownership of all stages of vehicle ESV / Chapter 8 designs.
As a key part of our production process, you will work closely with the Design, Sales and Production team to ensure drawings are
produced on-time, to client specifications and within legislative guidelines as well as VLS LTD own exacting design and branding
standards.
You will strive to achieve the highest levels of quality of design and data at all stages. Accuracy, responsiveness and continuity of
all standards are crucial to this role.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:



Understanding of nesting and cutting software
High level of computer skills in CAD, signmaking and illustration software (CorelDraw!, SignLab, Photoshop, Illustrator)
Understanding of materials and our production processes
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:















Overall responsibility for the quality and timely delivery of all livery designs
The consistent and accurate delivery of the VLS LTD brand across all drawing layouts
Taking, overseeing or instructing others in the accurate taking of vehicle template data.
Accurate and complete conversion of vehicle templates into digital format, using digitising / vectoring software / equipment
Completion of the drawing process into final kit schematics to the VLS LTD drawing standard
Allocation of database codes in line with guidelines for new vehicle templates using the vehicle library database
Knowledge and understanding of industry and statutory requirements, legislation and relevant materials (notably PSDB, Chapter8
and lighting regulations)
Understanding of microprismatic and other vinyl material working capabilities
To ensure layout and nesting / cutting requirements are accurate, maximising yield and ready for production to commence
To ensure all QMS standards are achieved and improved through feedback and development
Constantly look for, and implement, requested improvements to designs and nests to improve vehicle livery quality
Produce accurate nesting and costing information for Sales team to calculate sales prices for client requirements
Input to production schedule and forward plan, working with Operations manager and Sales Support Team so that client needs are
met and production resources efficiently utilised
Uploading / maintenance of drawing visuals to VLS LTD website / shop for clients to reference
Helping in production, collating / packing (as described in Production Assistant role), at busy periods / where time permits
Key contributor to:
 Minimising wastage and production costs
 Improving systems and processes to continuously improve quality, efficiency, capacity and margin

Ensure ISO compliance and update systems and procedures as required
