PRESS RELEASE ST. JOHANN, FEBRUARY 2013 NEW EGGER DECORS FOR 2013 UNDER THE MOTTO “TIMELESS – SPIRIT OF THE TIME” Uni colours, wood reproductions and especially surfaces in a neverbefore-seen diversity of combinations define the new EGGER decors for 2013. A dual trend is emerging among this year’s furniture design innovations. Clear, timeless uni colours were combined with types of wood in the spirit of the time under the motto “Design goes natural” over the past two years. Wood however is now becoming more timeless while the colours are in the spirit of the time, which in turn offers new combination possibilities. The decor trends between “Timeless and Spirit of the Time” share a focus on surfaces: “In the meantime, one can say unequivocally that surfaces are just as important in their own right as the decors themselves. If the right surface is not used with a certain decor or a specific uni colour today, the decor can quickly miss its mark,” explains Klaus Monhoff, Head of Decor Management EGGER Group, in discussing the company’s surface offensive. Next to the surface innovations from the previous year, ST18 Waveline and ST26 Painted Wood, EGGER is presenting a deep-matt version with ST6 Soft Matt and as a particular highlight among the new surfaces version ST936 Brushed Wood, which is a particularly deeply brushed, almost sandblasted surface, which is an ideal match for wood reproductions with a lot of depth in their appearance. SYNCHRONOUS PORE SURFACES FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FURNITURE In addition to these trendy surfaces, the first three synchronous pore surfaces (oak, chestnut and elm) for the furniture segment are coming to market as a special highlight under the name Feelwood. The technical requirements for these products were met through investments in new press technologies at the EGGER plants in Hexham (UK) and Rambervillers (FR). An investment in the technology required to realise synchronous pores in particular was made in Unterradlberg (AT). Deep surfaces as well as synchronous pores can be realised there. The particular feature of synchronous pores is not only their feel, but also their appearance which makes them perceptible – visible. This effect is especially very important with the new, glazed colours of various wood reproductions. At the same time all three synchronous pores are also perfectly suitable for uni colours. SPIRIT OF THE TIME IN POWERFUL ACCENT COLOURS According to Klaus Monhoff, the palette of uni colours this year also consists of timeless, neutral unis on the one hand and bright colours in the spirit of the time on the other hand: “Warm grey hues and colours with a metallic component are 1 PRESS RELEASE ST. JOHANN, FEBRUARY 2013 following a long-term trend towards neutral colours, and therefore stand for timelessness. However, we are setting powerful accents in the spirit of the time with matt and bright colours as well.” TRENDY DIVERSITY AMONG WOODGRAIN DECORS This trend duality is also embodied by the new woodgrain decors. They are defined primarily by a diversity of oak variations. Nautical Oak, Santa Fe Oak and Gladstone Oak (with synchronous pore surface) represent versions in the spirit of the time with numerous rustic elements here. With Orleans Oak and Thermo Oak on the other hand, the product range also includes two oak decors that are much more clearly defined by a uniform colour and represent a very timeless look. Tortona (with synchronous pore surface) is a version that presents itself as a chestnut which is elegant but nevertheless permeated by small knots, visually fitting in as a member of the oak family. The Navarra decor series presents a deeply brushed ash with highly independent hues, whereby the varied interplay of colours in this decor permits numerous combinations with uni colours. Cap Elm (once again with a synchronous pore surface) on the other hand presents a large-scale woodgrain image with ample florets, realising its effect particularly well on large areas. The Sumatra decor reveals an exotic type of wood with a large-scale decor image as well. Dark colours were chosen for this decor to highlight the sophistication of this type of wood. With Helsinki Birch and Fireland Cherry, the trend towards timeless types of wood includes classic wood types with a tendency in favour of longer-term relevance in the chosen colour range. The Yukon version, a softwood with an otherwise rather calm decor image, is imbued with particular naturalness through a few rustic elements. MATERIAL REPRODUCTIONS WITH LIVELY ACCENTS Numerous new decors in keeping with the “Timeless – Spirit of the Time” trend topic were developed for worktops as well. These in turn can be classified into the somewhat calmer and therefore timeless stone effects on the one hand and lively decor images on the other hand. The timeless reproductions can be found in the Tessina and Topas series, originating from the areas of ceramics and fine granite. Santuro and Dolomiti reveal the appearance of concrete in different versions. The Gemello and Cardiff decors are stone effects, featuring gold and silver elements in case of Gemello and presenting the look of slate streaks with Cardiff. The Tescado and Troja Oak versions are much more lively, therefore pointing more in the direction of the used look theme in the spirit of the time. Nevertheless, types of wood representing great naturalness or a scrap wood character are also being presented for worktop decors, for example with Seiser Pine and Jackson Pine. 2 PRESS RELEASE ST. JOHANN, FEBRUARY 2013 All of these new decors will be presented at the EGGERZUM in-house exhibition, which is being held from 18th February to 1st March in the new Forum at the plant in Brilon (DE) and from 4th March to 15th March at company headquarters in St. Johann in Tirol (AT).
