New colour variations, innovative surfaces and an updated Industry Collection await customers under the motto “Design goes natural” on 90 m 2 (969 square feet) of exhibition space. The interplay between modern and natural elements remains the guiding principle in furniture design. EGGER is looking forward to appearing at SICAM after receiving positive international interest last year. For 2012, the EGGER team is once again presenting numerous highlights for customers from the international furniture industry at exhibition stand C11 in hall 7. VARIETY OF DECORS AND TEXTURES Designs in the furniture industry currently focus on the combination of uni colours, authentic types of wood and textured surfaces. EGGER Decor Management has compiled a selection of current uni colours, natural and elegant types of wood and a new texture in keeping with these trends. UNIQUE VISUALISATIONS WITH DIGITAL SOLUTIONS In addition to the decor and colour highlights, visitors to the trade fair also have the opportunity to try out the multiple award-winning Virtual Design Studio (VDS). With digital printing solutions from EGGER, customers in the furniture industry enjoy the possibility of creating individual decor concepts. The EGGER team provides support from the design concept to the finished product. 4 PRESS FOLDER SICAM PORDENONE, OCTOBER 2012 EGGER PRESENTS INNOVATIONS FOR 2012 DECOR HIGHLIGHTS AND Oak decors in particular remain highly popular “Design goes natural” is the EGGER motto at SICAM this year. Nature, individuality and character define the current trends in furniture and interior design. The material mix of uni colours and wood is increasingly gaining importance. “Our motto highlights the further development of authentic wood as well as new, sophisticated combination possibilities,” explains Klaus Monhoff, Head of Design and Decor Management EGGER Group. “At the same time, the importance of uni colours continues to grow.” Touch is playing an important role, more so than ever before. This is why EGGER is also presenting a new texture that gives uni colours a fresh and highly natural appearance.” NATURAL UNI COLOURS CONTINUE TO ADVANCE Uni colours continue to gain importance in furniture design. They are now found as a popular feature in all areas of application within the furniture industry. Uni colours that exhibit a highly natural and/or neutral character are especially popular right now. White hues for example have to be creamy, while grey hues have to radiate warmth. On this basis, EGGER is presenting a concept of 15 neutral uni colours with a matt, natural surface in the new collection; these uni colours can also be combined perfectly with each other. POPULARITY OF OAK AMONG WOODGRAIN DECORS CONTINUES Never was the selection of woodgrain decors as extensive as it is today. Elegant yet highly natural types of wood are frequently seen in addition to many “used look” and “vintage appearance” decors. The colour of the wood is increasingly coming to the fore – which makes harmonious combinations with new uni colours possible. With the trend in oak continuing five new colour variations of existing oak decors have been developed. Dark thermo oak with a variety of colours, natural, elegant knotty oak decors and almost white woodgrain decors with slight colour hints take centre stage. Barrique Oak exhibits a special oak character: while the oak decors from the previous year had numerous knots scattered throughout the decor image, Barrique Oak has striking knots. This gives the decor a very natural appearance. The interplay of colours also offers room for a variety of combinations with numerous uni colours. A new decor is Barrique Oak Glazed (H9384 ST10) with a white-glazed natural hue that combines authenticity and lightness. Large, sectioned florets and the striking white, limed pores are combined in Feldberg Oak . A beautiful, natural colour gradient is also visible in the wood grain. The two new colours, Feldberg Oak Sand (H9377 ST11) and Feldberg Oak Greige (H9378 ST11) exhibit a softer pore and therefore have a highly elegant, natural character. 5 PRESS FOLDER SICAM PORDENONE, OCTOBER 2012 Rough cut Bardolino Oak already became a bestseller in the previous year and perfectly matches the common trends again this year. Thus, EGGER has expanded the highly successful decor with the darker Truffle Brown hue (H1158 ST10). Thermo wood is increasingly gaining importance in furniture design as well. The thermal treatment results in harmonious, varied colour gradients with extremely dark colours. Thermo Oak Black Gold (H9128) is a new decor that sets interesting accents with powerful planking, slight signs of knots and a mirror effect. In combination with the ST11 Natural Pore surface, the decor also gains the perfect feel. EGGER is exhibiting a number of wood reproductions, in addition to the new oak decors in Pordenone. These range from Painted Wood to Aalborg Pine, Marasino Elm to Bramberg Pine and Montana Larch. WIDE VARIETY OF MATERIAL REPRODUCTIONS A broad range of different authentic mineral and natural stone reproductions play a role in worktop designs. Material reproductions continue with a calm, neutral appearance on the one hand, but on the other create accents with highly expressive materials. The significance of worktop decors for front panels is sure to continue growing – whether as an accent or over the entire surface. NEW PAINTED WOOD SURFACE “Decors no longer work without textures today, since the textures define the character of a decor,” Klaus Monhoff says. The texture gives the decor a very special appearance and, in particular, an unmistakeable feel. Last year a new texture was presented with ST10 Authentic, which is very well suited for applications on dynamic and rustic woodgrain decors. With these types of wood, greater emphasis is placed on the feel of the surface rather than the appearance. This also applies to the Painted Wood ST26 surface introduced this year, the effect of an opaque coated pine surface creates entirely new design variations for uni colours. With the ST26 surface streaks and sectioned florets with their associated depth are particularly striking. DECOR INNOVATIONS 2012 Motto “Design goes natural” Numerous design variations, thanks to Focus on authenticity and naturalness a material mix of uni colours and wood New oak decors: dark thermo oak, or material reproductions elegant knotty oak and nearly white New ST26 Painted Wood surface with a woodgrain decors natural appearance. 6 PRESS FOLDER SICAM PORDENONE, OCTOBER 2012 EGGER RELEASES INDUSTRY COLLECTION UPDATE Highly comprehensive design programme for the furniture industry At SICAM 2012, EGGER presents the 2012/2013 decor collection for the furniture industry released in March: a mix of nature and design. The collection has a broad range of decors inspired by worldwide trends in the furniture industry. A selection of digital printing decors that demonstrate a new era of individuality are included in the Industry Collection for the first time. The updated Industry Collection is being released in October 2012. The new 2012/2013 Industry Collection combines modern and natural decors, new uni colours and various wood reproductions – all of them enhanced by suitable textures. One thing all woodgrain decors have in common is their suitability for combinations with uni colours. Here the focus is mainly on harmonious combinations. The new collection presents numerous application examples, representing the EGGER decors and surfaces. Functionality, economy and sustainability are very important along with aesthetic aspects that reflect the spirit of our time. COMBINATION POSSIBILITIES TAKE CENTRE STAGE Uni colours assume a leading role in modern furniture design. While they are often combined with other materials, combinations with each other are also being explored. The neutral colour palette between white, beige and grey frequently forms the basis, and is always being expanded with new colours. When colour meets texture, innovative possibilities occur. The Industry Collection, which was updated in October of 2012, offers a balanced, trend-conforming colour palette and innovative selection of textures. The range of woodgrain decors extends from warm, natural wood reproductions to exotic versions in a range of colours. Decor colours are increasingly gaining greater importance than the type of wood itself. In order to ensure that new woodgrain decors relate to the motto “Design goes natural”, special emphasis is placed on their natural character. New woodgrain decors have an extremely authentic character, which is created through natural elements such as wind cracks, knots, saw cuts or more pronounced planking. Individual art and fantasy wood effects for special accents are found in the new Artwoods decor world. A greater emphasis on nature also means more of a material character and less fantasy among the material reproductions. Pure fantasy patterns are rapidly vanishing from this decor world, since decors increasingly demanding individuality are more readily realised through digital printing – a new feature of the Industry Collection. On the other hand, material reproductions such as leather and textiles with a certain used look are new to this area. Material reproductions are now used on furniture fronts and carcasses and not just for work surfaces. 7 PRESS FOLDER SICAM PORDENONE, OCTOBER 2012 The new 220 page Industry Collection is also available for download from the EGGER website under the following link: www.egger.com/industry. Trade fair visitors at SICAM 2012 will have the opportunity to take the Virtual Design Studio (VDS), winner of several design awards, for a test drive. Digital technologies make never-before-seen visualisation possible. This holistic, integrated approach speeds up the process from the idea to realisation and therefore improves the quality of service. Selecting colours when designing living spaces requires great sensitivity and imagination. With its digital solutions, EGGER is creating a world of interactive experiences which in turn permit endless variety in the field of interior design. The closed cycle means that processes from the concept to implementation are realised more quickly and efficiently. This reduces costs in reaching a decor decision and in sales. Since customer risks for new product introductions are minimised, digital solutions also offer greater decision-making security. STRONG DEMAND FOR THE VIRTUAL DESIGN STUDIO Already sold more than 60 times worldwide, EGGER offers VDS on HD flat screens or a projector visualisation onto genuine furniture carcasses. “VDS allows our partners to present a wide variety of decor options in their showrooms, making it easier for their customers to reach a decision,” says Hubert Höglauer, Head of Marketing EGGER Group. The visualisation tool for showrooms, exhibitions or trade fairs is well received by customers and has already established itself worldwide, with impressive results in the form of sales figures: “VDS is being met with great interest and numerous enquiries,” Höglauer comments. “VDS PROFI” is a flexible visualisation software and part of the EGGER VDS family. This ultimate tool for PC workstations or laptops helps users design individual rooms with furniture and flooring decors. A free 30-day trial version is available for testing at www.egger.com/vds. A1 mineral fibre boards form the basis, laminated with EGGER micro-laminate on the front and a balancer paper on the reverse side in the standard version. The A2 laminate bonded boards meet the applicable fire protection requirements for public and commercial buildings. As part of the ZOOM collection, they are available in six different decors which also allow them to be used as design elements by architects and fabricators. Fire protection in public and commercial buildings such as schools, hotels, high-rises and hospitals is a complex issue, choosing the safest products is a consideration for every builder. Ultimate safety is achieved by using non-combustible materials. These are often composite materials where the individual components are certified, but no certificate is available for the finished composite material itself. According to the European DIN EN 13501-1 standard (reaction to fire), building authority requirements for non-combustible construction products specify that the construction products must comply with class A1 or A2 – s1, d0. A1 and A2 classifies the reaction to fire. SIX DECORS IN MATCHING COLOURS, IN STOCK FROM QUANTITIES OF ONE UNIT “In cooperation with our partner Akustik+, we are offering non-combustible, laminate joining element in class A2 - s1, d0 certified according to DIN EN 13501-1,” says Michael Beckmann, Product Manager Laminates and Acoustics at EGGER. The noncombustible A1 mineral fibre board forms the core of the joining element, and is laminated with EGGER micro-laminate on both sides. Since the colour of the coreboard is similar to wood, edge coating is not necessary. A2 laminate bonded boards are available from stock in three thickness (12, 16 and 18 mm (0.47”, 0.63” and 0.71”)) and in the formats of 2,800 or 2,300 x 1,260 mm (or 625 mm as the half format) (110.24” or 90.55” x 49.61” (or 24.61” as the half format)) in quantities of one unit and up (half format in pairs). The programme includes six decors from the current ZOOM collection: basic white, light grey, Light Lakeland Acacia, Ferrara Oak Natural, Walnut Aida Tobacco and Natural Tauern Beech. A2 JOINING ELEMENTS ALSO AVAILABLE AS ACOUSTICALLY EFFECTIVE BOARDS In public buildings in particular, architects frequently require the combination of noncombustible and acoustically effective materials. This is why A2 laminate bonded 11 PRESS FOLDER SICAM PORDENONE, OCTOBER 2012 boards from EGGER are available in quantities of 1 unit and more as acoustically effective elements – also certified in A2 - s1, d0 according to DIN EN 13501-1. NEW AKUSTIK+ PRODUCTION SITE Due to growing demand, the EGGER cooperation partner Akustik+ from Wächtersbach recently commissioned a new plant in Behringen, located in the vicinity of Eisenach (DE). A building with a production area of 8,000 m2 (86,111 square feet) was erected on a property of 38,000 m2 (409,029 square feet). Akustik+ has therefore created the space it requires in order to significantly increase its capacity for acoustically effective products. This is also where the non-combustible A2 laminate bonded boards are produced and upgraded for acoustic effectiveness. “With Akustik+, we have a strong partner by our side who is continuing to develop the business for acoustically effective products and composite boards with us,” says Michael Beckmann, EGGER Product Manager Furniture and Interior Design. A total of EUR 10 million was invested in buildings and production work centres at the new plant.
