2016 Academic WorldQuest Event Details: February 17, 2016 8:00AM - 1:30PM University of Texas at Arlington Bluebonnet Ballroom 300 W. 1st Street, Arlington, TX 76109 Parking for buses is at the UTA Maverick stadium (after student drop off) and parking for cars/vans is in North, Central and South Park Garages. What is Academic WorldQuest? Academic World Quest is a high school academic competition testing the competitors' knowledge of world affairs, geography, history, culture, flags, sports, current events, leaders, economics, international organizations, and more. Who Can Play? Any high school interested in forming a team can play. Teams can be formed by students, teachers, clubs, or organizations, multiple teams may be entered from any given high school. A team consists of four students and one coach. Each school may register up to three teams. The students must be in 9th - 12th grade, and the coach must be a faculty member of the one of the schools represented. How is WorldQuest Played? The topics for WorldQuest include: world affairs, geography, history, culture, flags, sports, current events, leaders, economics, international organizations, and more. The game is played in ten rounds of 10 questions each, 30 seconds for 1 each question. Answer sheets are turned in at the end of each round. Answers are submitted by teams, not by individuals. The trophy is awarded to the team with the highest total points for the ten rounds. In the event of a tie, a sudden death round will be played. How Much Does It Cost? The cost to compete at WorldQuest is $25.00 per team. Financial hardship scholarships are available. $25 covers breakfast and lunch for team and sponsor plus the Great Decisions book. We can help to cover bus costs. What Happens If My Team Wins? Medals and trophies are awarded to the first, second and third place teams. The gold medalists represent the World Affairs Council of Dallas / Fort Worth, their school, and the city/metroplex at the annual National Academic WorldQuest competition held in Washington D.C. All expenses for the winning team and coach travel to the national competition are sponsored by the Council. Expenses include: roundtrip airfare, lodging, some meals, registration, and fees. There is no cost to the school or district. Each team must decide on a single answer to each question and mark its answer sheet for that round. The question formats are as follows: 1. Multiple Choice items: Most questions will consist of a question followed by four answers. 2. Pictorial: Identification of flags, faces, buildings, famous places, photographs. How is the Contest Scored? An arbiter scores the contest at the end of each half. Only correct answers are counted. Team standings are announced after intermission. The final standings will be shown at the Awards Ceremony.
