This in an edited version of a Board paper THE AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT LIMITED (ACN 102 908 118) BOARD MEETING 29 SEPTEMBER 2005 – CASE TEACHING WORKSHOP PURPOSE 1. To inform the Board about a case teaching workshop to be offered by the School. DISCUSSION 2. The case program is proceeding well, with many cases developed, as reported to the Board at the meeting on 4 August . Considerable work has been done on developing writers through case writing workshops. Workshops led by Professor Jim Erskine of the Ivey Business School were held in Wellington and Melbourne in February 2005. 3. In relation to case teaching, a successful seminar was conducted in Sydney in September 2003, led by Professor Bob Behn of the Kennedy School of Government. In 2005, the School funded travel by Dr Janine O’Flynn from the University of Canberra to Seattle to participate in the annual case teaching workshop conducted by the Electronic Hallway, based at the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs, University of Washington. She reported that this was a very valuable experience which would be of great use for ANZSOG teachers. 4. It is felt that further professional development in case teaching will increase the skills of all participants and assist with improvement in ANZSOG programs. A workshop will be held at the Melbourne Business School in early 2006. It will be conducted by John Boehrer, who leads the Electronic Hallway workshops, with the assistance of Professor Mark Moore from the Kennedy School. 5. An outline of the program is included in the paper. The workshop will be over 3 ½ days from 31 January to 3 February. RECOMMENDATION 6. That the Board note this report.
