Physical Science
Course Description: Students demonstrate an understanding of the composition of
physical systems and the concepts and principles that describe and predict physical
interactions and events in the natural world. This includes demonstrating an
understanding of the structure and properties of matter and objects, chemical reactions
and the conservation of matter. In addition, it includes understanding the nature,
transfer and conservation of energy; motion and the forces affecting motion, the nature
of waves and interactions of matter energy. Students demonstrate an understanding of
the historical perspectives, scientific approaches and emerging scientific issues
associated with the physical sciences.
Instruction: There will be a variety of different formats. Lecture and note taking are a
significant part of the process. On the first day of the week (i.e.: Monday) an
Assignment Guide will be distributed to the students providing homework and class
work expectations. Also, there will be labs, case studies, essay assignments, and group
based activities requiring a presentation of each group’s research and analysis.

General Information: Each day will begin with a short review of previously learned
material. This exercise will be conducted to reinforce previously offered topics, etc. Any
homework should be completed prior to arriving in class. All writing assignments
should contain complete sentences. I do not take make-up work for unexcused
absences. Make up work will be given, if you present a white excused absence slip.
Extra Credit: I do not issue extra credit for students, because that type of credit is built
into the weekly Assignment Guide.
Extra Assistance: The teacher will be available before or after school to address any
concerns the student may have with the course or course materials. Students who
choose to attend these sessions must be 100% prepared and ready to work.
