QUESTION
TO BE ANSWERED BY
Over 2,000 homeless families are living in B&Bs – an increase of 8% from 2012,
according to government figures. Shelter has warned that children’s health can
suffer living in such accommodation, which is meant to only be temporary. At
the end of June, 790 families had been living in B&Bs for longer than the sixweek legal limit. Can the Executive Member please advise how many families
there are within Torfaen that are in temporary B&B accommodation and whether
any have been there for longer than the six week legal limit?

The Council papers record recent Cabinet decisions and indicate that there has
been a discussion on the subject of redistributing the duties of the Deputy Chief
Executive upon his retirement next year. Would the Leader please outline the
proposed arrangements for redistribution of the varied and very demanding
workload of this tremendously diligent, dedicated and highly valued officer who
has worked so assiduously to support the Chief Executive, Staff, Members and
Torfaen residents.

Is a reason why Llantarnam School has been potentially chosen for closure,
rather than Fairwater High School, because the Llantarnam site is more suited
to having an all Torfaen post 16 provision moved there afterwards?

Can the Leader advise why TCBC has not signed up to paying Council Councillor Wellington –
employees and contractors on low incomes the living wage rather than the Leader of the Council
minimum wage?

Sir Merrick Cockell, Chairman of the Local Government Association recently
said:
Councillor
Bob
Wellington – Leader of
the Council
"The Barnett Formula has passed its use-by date. It is an historic relic from a
time when the Government stopped people taking more than £50 on a holiday
abroad. What was only ever intended as a stop-gap solution has now become a
major problem which is short-changing English communities and underfunding
their public services by £4.1 billion a year. We now need a fair and equitable
distribution of public money across the Union.”
Does the Leader agree with him?
