CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT APRIL 20th-21st, 2001 MESSIAH COLLEGE Web Site: www.eteamz.com/macvc e-mail: macvcvb@aol.com Welcome The 2000 MACVC season culminates with the annual championship tournament. The championship tournament has always been filled with excitement and high quality volleyball. I expect that this year’s tournament will be no different. Special thanks go out to Messiah College for hosting this event & to all of the teams who participate in the conference. Best of luck to all of the competitors & congratulations on another great season of men’s club volleyball. Messiah College has arranged for the Falcon Express to open at 10am and remain open throughout the championship tournament. The Falcon Express will have food & drink available throughout the event. Bob Herrmann, MACVC Commissioner MACVC Tournament Preview Not in several years has the number 1 ranked MACVC team come away with the Championship title. The last time that this happened was back in 1995 when Kings won the regular season title and the championship tournament. In 2000, Kings has beaten top every team in the conference & looks to be a favorite to once again rule the MACVC. Millersville has been a National power for the past 3 years & should not be counted out, this could be the year that ‘Ville captures its first crown. Susquehanna has proven that on any given day they can still be the best (and beat Kings, Millersville and York in the same day earlier in the season)…..but no team has been able to three-peat in the history of the MACVC…can they overcome the jinx? York has been able to hang with everybody but hasn’t knocked off Kings or ‘Ville…..yet! Messiah is 2 for 2 when playing the championship tournament (1996-1997) in their own gym, don’t count them out. West Chester has been playing a solid schedule & has beaten several of the top MACVC teams, they should make a run for their first championship. Bloomsburg, Princeton, College of NJ and Villa Julie have all had solid seasons and could advance to the quarterfinals, where anything can happen. Lehigh has a history of coming up big when they need too & showed that last weekend at Nationals. They could be a dark horse along with Kutztown, Phila Bible, and Shippensburg. As always, the MACVC championship will be one of the most intense volleyball competitions around. MACVC 2000 Season The MACVC was aligned into 4 divisions for the 2000 season. Each team was required to play a round robin schedule within their division. The top 3 teams in each division based on divisional record qualified for the championship tournament. The remaining championship field was selected on an at-large basis. History of the MACVC The Middle Atlantic Club Volleyball Conference (MACVC) was founded in 1992 with 10 teams to provide a men’s intercollegiate club league for members of the NCAA Division III, Middle Atlantic Conference. The MACVC has continued to prosper and grow, merging with the Atlantic Men’s Intercollegiate Volleyball (AMIV) league in 1996 to become one of the largest & most competitive collegiate conferences in the country. The MACVC provides area college club teams with a structured organization in which they can compete against collegiate teams with a similar level of play. Any college club teams interested in joining the MACVC need to contact the conference in the fall where preparations for the spring season are made. The MACVC is a recognized club conference within the National Intramural and Recreation Sports Association (NIRSA). NIRSA sponsors the collegiate club national volleyball championships. The MACVC has proven to be one of the best Division II conferences in the country. While many teams have represented the conference at the National championships, several of the conference teams have put the conference on the map by their outstanding team performances at Nationals.
