Syllabus

Assessment will be by means of classroom practice, assignments, quizzes, and tests in oral and/or written form.

First Semester

First Nine Weeks

Objectives of Repaso

The objectives of Repaso are to review important vocabulary and grammar introduced in Level I.

Chapter listings in parentheses indicate location of Level I information.

Repaso A - Friends, family, home, the verb ser, nouns, articles, adjectives, tener, and possessive adjectives.

(Chp 1, 2)

Repaso B - Home and school activities, present tense of regular verbs, present tense of ir, dar, estar, and contractions.

(Chp 1, 2, 3)

Repaso C - Personality, health, general well-being, ser, estar, and indirect object pronouns.

(Chp 3, 4, 6)

Repaso D - Sports, present tense of stem-change verbs, aburrir, interesar, and gustar.

(Chp 5)

Repaso E - Shopping, saber, conocer, comparatives and superlatives.

(Chp 9)

Repaso F

Summer/winter activities, regular preterite verbs, preterite of ir and ser, and direct/indirect object pronouns.

Chapter 1 Students will demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the present progressive tense , “go” verbs in the present tense , and the vocabulary related to preparation for a trip/ traveling by air in South America.

Chapter 2 Students will be able to indicate knowledge and understanding of the vocabulary associated with parts of the body, daily routines, chores, backpacking and camping in Spanish-speaking countries while using reflexive verbs, and commands with favor de.

FIRST QUARTER EXAM

Second Nine Weeks

Chapter 3 Students will learn and use vocabulary related to train travel in Peru and Mexico. Students will demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the preterite of irregular verbs , the verb decir , and prepositional pronouns .

Chapter 4 Students will be able to identify food items and customs, order and pay for meals, and discuss restaurants in Spain and

Latin American using appropriate vocabulary while demonstrating knowledge and understanding of stem-changing verbs in the present and preterite tenses , adjectives of nationality , and the passive voice with se .

Chapter 5 Students will learn and use vocabulary related to Hispanic holidays. Students will demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the regular and irregular forms of the imperfect tense .

SECOND QUARTER EXAM

SEMESTER EXAM

Second Semester

Third Nine Weeks

Chapter 6 Students will learn vocabulary related to technology and its use in Hispanic countries.

Students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the preterite and imperfect tenses .

Chapter 7 Students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the present perfect tense, double object pronouns , and the vocabulary needed during hotel and hostel stay in Latin America and Spain.

Chapter 8 Students will be able to describe life in the city versus the country in Latin America while demonstrating knowledge and understanding of related vocabulary, the future tense, and object pronouns used with infinitives and gerunds.

THIRD QUARTER EXAM

Fourth Nine Weeks

Chapter 9 Students will learn vocabulary related to automobiles, driving and directions while demonstrating knowledge and understanding of tú affirmative commands

and the conditional tense .

Chapter 10 Students will learn about Latino cuisine, preparation, and recipes while demonstrating knowledge and understanding of appropriate vocabulary, subjunctive , formal commands , and negative informal commands .

Chapter 11 Students will exhibit knowledge of vocabulary associated with exercise, health care, and the body.

Students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the use of the subjunctive with impersonal expressions , ojalá , quizás , and tal vez ; the subjunctive of stem-changing verbs , and the comparison of like things .
