Mrs. C. Hoffman choffman@plps.org US History II Academic Class Rules- You are expected to: 1. be on time. 2. be prepared. 3. respect each other. 4. only bring water to class. Grades: Tests Quizzes, Projects Outlines & Homework Class Participation 45% 25% 15% 15% Class Participation = Be attentive. Listen. Take notes. Answer and ask questions. Contribute to group projects. If you have a question about any grade, please come see me during a period we both have free or after/before school. Absence: When you are absent, you must see me upon your return to find out what you missed! It is your responsibility to see me during a period in which we both have free or before/after school. Failure to make up missed work will result in zeros. If you miss class for an activity, due to tardiness, a visit to the nurse, etc. but you are present in school that day, you must see me to get the homework. Otherwise, you will receive a zero. Pens & Typing: Use black or blue pen on all tests; do not use red pen or pencil. Typed assignments must be double-spaced (except outlines) and 12 font (Arial or Times Roman). Textbooks: You will be assigned a username and password for an online textbook, which can be accessed at my.hrw.com. Homework Quizzes: Reading and taking notes will be consistently assigned as homework. You will be asked to read a section of your textbook and write or type a proper outline of notes. You will use the outline to take a quiz. Also, I will collect outlines with your quizzes. Notebooks: You can use any form of notebook. However, remember all outlines will be collected. Furthermore, your notebook is not only for outlines but also class notes and storage of tests, quizzes, etc. You must bring your notebook to class every day. Cheating: Cheating is 100% unacceptable! If you cheat, I will report you to the administration, call home, and you will receive a zero for the work in question. No excuses will be accepted. Cheating and Outlines: Copying (by hand, email, photocopy, copy/paste etc.) outlines is cheating. Also, you cannot copy the book word for word. You may not have more than three words in a row copied exactly from the book unless it is a definition. Seating: The seat you are assigned is your seat for the year. The only exception is during group work. If you have a problem with your seat, please see me. Do not switch seats without permission. Extra-Credit: I will not assign extra-credit work. I encourage you to always do your best. Research-Thesis Paper: You will be assigned a mandatory research-thesis paper (3 – 5 pages). If you do not submit this paper, you will automatically fail the cycle in which it is due. Misbehavior & Cell Phones: If you misbehave, you will be asked to leave my classroom to speak with Mr. Mattera. Also, cell phones must be turned off and put away during class. Purses must be left under the desk or on an empty desk to avoid the temptation to check your phone. I will confiscate your phone if necessary.
