Apparently, the students had written outlines on a prior day and were using these outlines to develop their reports. This was a good way to teach this subject. She had an example of an outline on the chalkboard, and the students were helping her develop the main idea and the subheadings into well-written sentences. For seatwork, the students developed their own outlines into paragraphs. This was a good lesson. It followed a smooth flow pattern, and the timing was excellent. RESPONSE OF THE STUDENTS: PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: Not once did the students’ eyesight wander to other places in the room. That teacher was interacting with the students in a way that the students didn’t want to look in another direction. All the students were contributing to the development of the paragraph. These students apparently wanted to please this teacher. None of these students misbehaved during the independent work period. PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: TEACHER: I was impressed by the nice displays the teacher had on the wall. They were very detailed and colorful. One could tell that much preparation went into them. The desks were arranged in rows with space between each desk. This also allowed room for the learning centers that were set up around the room. These were good also! TEACHER Needless to say, this teacher really knows how to relate to her students. She knew exactly what motivated her students and used these strategies. She was well-liked by all the students. This teacher conducted herself in a professional manner and dressed that way also. I would’ve liked to have had her as a fifth grade teacher.
