It introduces the concepts of systems, IS, and IT and their applications in organizational context. Management of information, knowledge management, and systems development will be discussed to provide an understanding of the integration of IT into business processes. In this course IT is conceptualized as a business resource while IS as a business solution. Learning Objectives: The most fundamental skill the course is intended to convey is that of learning how to learn about computer-based information systems and the ways in which these systems are applied in organizations. Lectures and discussions will focus on fundamental and persisting issues in information technology and management. Issues that will help students appreciate the directions, in which this changing technology is heading, the potential it offers organizations, and the key elements that make up an organizational information systems. In order to craft information technologies and software packages into effective applications, users must possess problem solving and design skills. This course will help students to remove a great deal of the puzzlement that frequently surrounds computers and information systems. Students are assumed to bring the knowledge they have from other courses and from their own experiences to bear on information management and on class discussions. 2.
