Standardized full protocol for in vitro multiplication of grape . It included selection and standardization of culture medium ( ½ basal MS), selection of explant from 30 days old shoot tips and etiolation of shoots at pre-culture stage (For details, please see Annexure-1).
A simple and most practical solution for unfruitfulness in Kagzi Kalan lemon was given. It was recommended to plant atleast 10% plants of Pummelo in commercial orchards of Kagzi Kalan lemon to get fruitful production from its orchards (For details, please see Annexure-1).
A practical solution for reducing fruit cracking in Kagzi Kalan lemon was given. A spray of
CaCl
2
(0.05%) at half grown stage of fruit development was recommended to reduce the problem of fruit cracking considerably (For details, please see Annexure-1).
Standardized full package of practices for growing Floridian strawberry cultivars under north
Indian conditions, which included slection of varety, planting date and mulching material (For details, please see Annexure-1).
Reported occurrence of physiological disorder like albinism, fruit malformation and buttoning in strawberry for the first time (For details, please see Annexure-1).
Relationship between PPO activity and bearing behaviour in mango was established. It was reported that lower PPO activity is associated with regular bearing habit in mango (For details, please see Annexure-1).
Relationship between vigour of rootstock with the occurrence of granulation, and fruit drop in Kinnow mandarin was established. It was reported that Kinnow had least granulation on dwarfing rootstock (Troyer citrange) (For details, please see Annexure-1).
Fruit pitting , a new physiological disorder in mango was reported for the first time. Low light and
Ca and B content were associated with the occurrence of fruit pitting (For details, please see
Annexure-1).
2
Relationship between mineral content and lipoxygenase (LOX) activity with albinism was established in strawberry. It was observed that reduced LOX activity have definite relationship with albinism (For details, please see Annexure-1).
Recommendation of mild pruning for sustained production from Amrapali high- density mango orchards (For details, please see Annexure-1).
Technology for passive modified atmosphere packaging of apple has been standardized. It has been observed that Royal delicious apples packed in 1% perforated LDPE bags could be stored for about 35 days without much loss in PLW and decay (For details, please see Annexure-
1)..
Technology has been standardized for shrink wrapping of apples using heat shrinkable films for extending shelf-life and maintaining quality of apples at room temperature. Heat shrinkable
‘Cryovac’ films (9 µ) were the best for using this technique (For details, please see Annexure-1)..
Technology has been standardized for the biocontrol of post harvest diseases of apple using
Debaryomyces hansenii , sodium biocarbonate (2%) and 50 o C hot water dip treatment for 2 minutes (For details, please see Annexure-1).
Technology has been standardized for shrink wrapping of kiwifruit using heat shrinkable films for extending shelflife and maintaining quality at room temperature. Heat shrinkable ‘Cryovac’ films (9 µ) were the best for using this technique (For details, please see Annexure-1).

Sensation), H-2-6 (Amrapali x Lal Sundari), H-4-12 (Dashehari x Sensation) and H-8-11
(Amrapali x Lal Sundri) have been identified .
All these hybrids are regular bearer and have attractive peel colour. Of these hybrids, H-1-1 (Amrapali x Sensation) and H-1-6 (Amrapali x
Sensation) will be released this year by Delhi State Variety Release Committee
Several new mango hybrids have also been developed. Of these hybrids , H-3-2 (Amrapali x
Sensation) has outperformed all the hybrids in terms of prolificacy in bearing, fruit size, and fruit clour

Two-mango varieties viz., Pusa Arunima and Pusa
Surya were released . Of these, Pusa Arunima is a hybrid between Amrapali, a indigenous mango and
Sensation, an exotic (Florida) variety. It is a semi-
vigorous hybrid, and regular in bearing. It bears medium sized fruits (250 g) of attractive red colour having medium TSS (18.5%), high total carotenoids
(14,200 µg/100 g pulp), high shelf-life (8-
10 days). It is highly suitable both for domestic and
international markets.
Pusa Surya has been released by the Institute after assessing Eldon, an exotic variety for about 22 years. Its plants are semi-vigorous and regular in bearing. It bears apricot yellow coloured fruits of very good size (270 g) with medium TSS (17.5%), high shelf life (8-10 days). It is also suitable for domestic as well as International markets.
Several mango hybrids have been assessed for many years. As a result of concerted efforts, some promising hybrids like H-1-1 (Amrapali x Sensation), H-1-6 (Amrapali x Sensation), H-2-6 (Amrapali x
Lal Sundari), H-4-12 (Dashehari x Sensation) and H-8-11 (Amrapali x Lal Sundri) have been identified .
All these hybrids are regular bearer.
Of these hybrids, H-1-1 (Amrapali x Sensation) and H-1-6 (Amrapali x Sensation) bear attractive red coloured fruits, and have medium TSS (18-19%). These hybrids have been released by IARI and
Delhi State Variety Release Committee in 2011.
7
The hybrid H-1-1 (Amrapali Sensation) has been named as Pusa Pratibha , H-1-6 (Amrapali
Sensation) as Pusa Shresth , H-2-6 (Amrapali x Lal Sundari) as Pusa Pitamber and H-4-12
(Dashehari x Sensation) as Pusa Lalima . The hybrid H-2-6 bear apricot coloured fruits and released as Pusa Pitamber. by Delhi Sate Variety Release Committee in 2011.
Several new mango hybrids have also been developed by Mango Improvement Team (1997-2009).
Some of them are in their 3 rd or 4 th year of fruiting and few had maiden fruiting last year. Of several these hybrids , H-11-2 (Amrapali x Sensation) has outperformed all the hybrids in terms of prolificity in bearing, fruit size, and fruit clour. This hybrid has to be assessed for next few years. It will be a milestone in the history of Mango Breeding of India.
